people who rate....either its excellent or there is no rating applied. im new to the communinty, but what i see is either they rate it excellent or they dont rate at all. This is supposed to be a place where poeple submit their works and people can judge them...but people dont seem to rate unless they think the picture is flawless. People need to vote on items even if they dont think its perfect...to help new people out, crituque or whatever. maybe its just me...but if i see something i think is alright im going to say so.....i hope others do the same.

That's the way of it here. Good luck trying to change it. If your pic really annoys someone, though, trust me, it will get slammed.

Let me explain in a little more depth... If someone leaves a comment, it more or less signifies that they are interested or moved in some way enough to bother. By that token, the majority of comments you'll get will be praise. OTOH, there are some people who find it impossible to say anything "critical" for one reason or another. The dilemma is simple: Should I leave a comment on the content or the execution of the image, or both? Most of my comments in this case would not fall into the "helpful" category, anyhow, so you would have a false impression if I were to praise the things I like about it. The best thing you can do is try to find someone you respect, who knows what they are talking about, to look at your images objectively. I'm fortunate in that there are a few people I can count on to give me the absolute truth. Anyhow, just keep posting and see what reactions you get. Then go an do your own thing anyhow. That's what I always do.

Just to touch on what Sam says there, post your images because "you" want to show your work not because you want comments. At the end of the day what matters is whether you are happy with what you've done not anyone else. Sure it's nice to get comments but it's not about that! OTOH you're right about one thing, generally if I see an image I don't like or is blatantly flawed in some way I just don't comment but if it's good artistically or technically I'll probably comment. Then again I don't look at every image every day either! Welcome to the community and stay and enjoy yourself, that's what it's about!

And sometimes, the rating will be clicked but fail to go through when the comment is submitted. I've seen that happen when I've commented on images. I usually hit back and submit it again so that the rating goes through also. Uni

thanks for the explination. It makes perfect sense, i guess with me being new i would like someone to say. "You're lighting is a little off." or something like that...which i have had someone already point out which i am so thankful for. But i understand exactly what you guys are saying. I plan to stay around here for awhile, i just needed to get that off my chest :) Rich

I just tell em what i think of the image or a part of it. And sometimes i got a PM to thank me for the hint , and sometimes i get an PM with thingd like who do you think you are, your not that good yourself etc etc. I mostly repley find that small details wreck the image, and thats what i will say. Like : everybody is standing on there toes "80%" of the figures do that. And when i like an image i tell em that aswell But i rate acordingly to my view, so not only exl. C.B.

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER!! Just like the others had commented if your pleased with the picture that you have done thats really all that matters. Eveyone see's things differntly, what one might see in his/her work and might be trying to convey, others might not see it, thats the great thing about art. I have seen work in here that might need alot of improvement and it might have 500 viewings and 40 comments on how great it is, and the picture next to it might be very pro. done and get 50 viewings and 0 comments. Just be pleased with what you do and if you get a comment be happy that at least someone cared enough to say something about it.
