I don't know if this is possible via a plugin, but when I create a shader I would love to be able give it a name in (of all places) the texture room. And hey, why not name an object in (wait for it) the modeling room? Just a crazy, out-there kind of thought.

but that would make too much sense, so not happening

You can do this with shaders. In the texture room, bottom, right, click on the shaders tab. If you select the shader there, the General properties show up above and you can edit the name.
No solution for the model room though. Someone could write a plug-in that lets you do something like Edit|Rename Me, but that would be a lot of work for not much benefit. Best option is to probably send the request to eovia.

That's a neat tip, Eric, although obviously not ideal. I should have mentioned, by the way, how much I would pay for such a plugin: $0. I wouldn't want to pay for such simple functionality. So yeah, it's probably best sent to Eovia.

In the early RayDream days, when inserting a, say, spline object, the first thing RD made you do was give it a name. No way around it. I liked that. I think it was the same with shaders. I would have no problems with the reinstallment of this 'feature'.
