My free stuff items keep popping up because I've had hosting problems and have been forced to change the links a couple times. And unfortunately, editing a free stuff item here makes it pop up again. Blame Renderosity's archaic bullshit free stuff system, NOT ME! If I get one more nasty fucking e-mail or IM about this, I'M PULLING EVERYTHING. My son has had serious health problems for months and I don't have time to deal with a bunch of selfish, ungrateful fuckheads. I'm just trying to be generous and I'm sick and tired of getting kicked in the face for it.

Thanks:) I'm sorry, I probably flew off the handle there. But damn it, I have 54 free stuff items. A few are for my marketplace figures (and some of those could be used with other figures), but most aren't. There are complete original figures, interior sets, posable props, all free for commercial use. I didn't have enough room on my Rendervisions space to fit all my stuff, so I had to find other free hosting to be able to offer everything. zUpload crapped out on me, theupload.com tried to install spyware, and some people were having trouble accessing savefile.com for some reason. Finally, MGCJerry offered me safe, stable hosting. It's been a huge headache for me, uploading everything over and over on my measly dial-up connection, changing all those damned links time after time. But I did it because I like to share. And what do I get for it? Nasty e-mails and IM's. My free stuff, some of which were fairly successful products at one time, some which I've often received requests for, are suddenly spam. I'm sorry that Renderosity's system is screwed up, but that's not my fault. If anyone wants to bitch, go to the Community Center forum and demand that they change the system, that edited items don't show as new uploads. But don't blame me. Many thanks to all those with kind words, though. I can really use them right now...

Yikes! The old saying "no good deed goes unpunished" has some merit I'm afraid. That doesn't make it any less good, but it sure makes it harder. I understand that. There's a thread a few below this one on the meaning of the term "complete idiot." Maybe the ingrates need to be referred to it. Or a plan "B" might be to simply respond to those IM's and Emails with one word. "Onara" That means "fart" (maybe even 'honorable fart") in Japanese. It probably won't make anything better but I (and certain French soldiers) know that sometimes it helps one to deal with difficult people by farting in their general direction. Hang in there and don't hesitate to take a break if you need to. You are very appreciated by most of us. [p.s. Yes, that really is the Japanese word for fart.]

Thanks everyone:) And special thanks to AntoniaTiger. That's a pretty damn good answer;) I love seeing my stuff put to use. And yeah, I should know better than to let a few assholes ruin it for everybody, but the last IM was just the straw that broke the camel's back. I should also know enough to take a breath before I post, but sometimes ya just gotta rant, you know?;) I don't expect anyone to kiss my ass or anything, but I don't expect insults and accusations, either. Oh yeah, it's all part of my evil plot to... hmm... you know, even my sinister mind can't think of a scenario where having my free stuff popping up as new again and again could possibly work to my advantage. I check the Poser forum and freestuff daily so I'm well aware of your hosting problems. Seeing the same stuff by you posted in the freebies section more than once doesn't bother me. I'd already assumed it was the way the site operated that updating anything in that section made the product "1st in line". Of course, not everyone reads the forum. As such they will not understand why your models are being posted again and again, then take the classic "we're being spamed", line. I can understand their attitude if they can't work out what's going on. I see no need for a thread title like this. Either deal with the flack from individuals by refering them to Renderosity staff to explain how the system works, or ignore them and keep on doing the good work you seem more than capable of. WISQ

I can't provide individual domains, but I have an FTP server which a few people find useful for hosting Free Stuff items. And it's free. And it's been operational for five years at least. Barring an act of nature, it should continue for some more years. I cannot offer all the bells and whistles of a proper hosting service, but then it's not as volatile as these so-called free services. :) The machine is on a firewalled router with 24-7 AV protection, a good FTP server software, tons of storage (80GB solely dedicated for the internet), and I check it daily.

If a freestuff link is edited that is older than 30 days, it doesn't pop up to what's new again. However if it's within 30 days then it does. I don't know why that is. I asked for them all to go back to their original spot but this is what I got. (They used to all go back to What's New, no matter when posted.) With the community conversion to Bondware 3 just around the corner, hopefully there will be some good enhancements to freestuff which will stop this happening in future. Btw, everything is back up here now with the new links. And so far, no more nasty messages since I posted this, so maybe it did some good? You know, it's funny, it's taken days to get them all changed and approved/posted, five or so a day, but yesterday was the only day I received anything like that, and there were several. But hopefully, it will remain the only day...
My son has been through hell. Nothing really tragic like cancer or anything, but still a lot of misery. Since he started kindergarten in September, he's been sick pretty much constantly, catching every damned cold and flu that's passed through his class. Last month he even ended up with full blown pneumonia, a really bad case of it. He had to have IV antibiotics for days, lots of needles. Then the antibiotics caused an intestinal infection that caused him even more misery than the damned pneumonia, I mean screaming agony, vomiting, diarrhea... Then a week or so later, he got it AGAIN, due to antibiotics he was taken for something else! (Strong antibiotics wreak havok on your digestive system, killing good bacteria) Now we've gotten him over that again, he was finally feeling good again for a couple days, when BAM, he caught a bad cold again yesterday. The poor kid would be lost if he wasn't taking some kind of medicine every day. lol His immune system must be begging for mercy. Oh yeah, and he had to have his adenoids removed a few months ago, too.
And on top of all that, we found out he has a fairly bad case of scoliosis, which essentially means his spine is curved in bad ways. A few days before Christmas he had to start wearing a rather uncomfortable brace that covers most of his torso. He has to wear it pretty much 24 hours a day, and he'll possibly need it until he's in his late teens. He's dealing with it well, but it still breaks my heart.
So the boy hasn't really even been up to just running around the yard or playing in the snow or just things like that. He's really had a rough time, and had to face the new adventure of school through it all.
So if I lose my temper with assholes like these, I think you can understand why.

I think most of us here know you were a victim of circumstances, and understood what had been going on. Keep up the good work and thank you for so many really nice items. Don't let the ignorant, ungrateful trolls get you down.Unfortunately, some idiots don't appreciate anything. Hoping for a speedy and complete recovery for your son, as well. But maybe there's something different about the file you tried to download? Or maybe Jerry was in the process of making changes at the time and the message you received was only temporary? I don't know yet, this is news to me. Before, once you clicked your download just started, no pages came up. But maybe someone was abusing the privilege and Jerry had to put a protective measure in?

All the files come up with the downloads zip, I tried 5 or 6 different ones and it happened with them all. If I go to 2thextreme I can download the files normally. I thought that it might be a cookie problem but that is unlikely, here is the message in the zip in full: Hi. I suppose you want to know what the hell is going on. Here's the scoop. The site you downloaded this file from is not authorized to link to the file you requested. You can download the intended file from our real site at http://www.2thextreme.org/modules.php?name=Downloads The best part of our downloads, you dont need to register to download them, and you are getting the files from the original source so you can be assured the files are legitimate and current. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I dont believe I should pay for traffic that I do not see when people hotlink our files from their server. Feel free to drop by our site and enjoy yourself. Thanks for the heads up...
Heres the thing with downloading items and getting a download.zip file instead.
If you are registered on my site, and try to use the links in the freestuff section here you will get the "download.zip" file. This is because that registered users bypass the "password check", and get served the file. And since rosity is not an authorized referer, the hotlink protection takes effect and serves "download.zip" instead. Also "Referer blocking" settings in your browser/ ad killer will also result in getting the "download.zip" file
This only applies to people who've registered on my site, and continue downloading items from the rosity freestuff.
Since I will NOT allow rosity "direct linking", those that are registered will encounter this. If I allow "direct linking" for rosity, it will allow people to post the file link around the forums and fetching the file directly (bandwidth theft). I want people to see my site to get the files. Sorry, but because of bullshit I've had in the past, this practice will not change.
Heres a couple workarounds through.
This should help you guys out. BTW, at time of post I used 7.6GB of bandwidth and I have a max of 8GB month. Dont worry, I'll take care of this. :)

Ok... Time expired to edit post... So I gotta do a new reply...
Now that I've had a moment to read this whole post...
Get over it people. Dont bitch at the wrong people for the way rosity handles their download system though itd be an easy MySQL query edit to make them show up in the order they were submitted.
Anyway, I've done some math so lets take a look at something... x2000 has 80.4 MB of files uploaded which he did via FTP. I know it took him a loooong time to do so. How long? Let's put it into perspective...
*56K is actually limited to a MAX of 53K per FCC
Of course I dont feel it took him 10 hours of total uploading, I still feel it was on the scale of 6-8 hours since it seemed he did have a good upstream which I'm sure hes thankful for.
For those that dont know where I got these numbers at, consult google for the numbers... 1KB = 1024bytes, 1byte=8 bits (internet speed measured in bits since it sounds faster)

As a (free) game mods designer I can feel your pain.
Couple years back I made a free add-on editor for a game called Operation Flashpoint.
Some German company decided to make a mission expansion pack (read commerical)
and used my editor to do so when I had placed a for NON-COMMERICAL use what so ever clause in the readme and legal texts.
I contacted them and until I threatened to sue and had Codemasters backing me up did they say they would cough up a measly 1% royalties.
I got one check, then suddenly their phone number and fax machine were
disconnected. Being in the US there was not a whole lot I could do about it.
To make matters worse people started saying I sold out and yadda yadda yadda even
though the editor was still available for free!

your freebies are great, and without them getting bumped, i wouldn't have seen them, so there. :) yes, the freestuff software stinks, but that's nothing compared to the bad smell whiners such as those abusing you have. but really, whiners are small-minded pitiful people because they don't have anything better to do. whining is so much easier than creating something; consider feeling sorry for them instead -- you are creating nifty models, they whine -- no comparison, really. "nothing online means anything"? nonsense. i don't make a distinction between online and the rest of my life, because everything that happens online also happens offline, except it can be or seem more direct online. in some ways that directness is a blessing; sometimes it sucks. and i think it's best for one's mental health to learn to let negativity roll off one's back, online and in meatspace both. this is easier said than done, but it's a skill one can acquire with practice. one year i planted a seedling for every nasty thing that got to me -- being out in the fresh air doing a bit of physical activity got rid of the adrenaline, and i had the best garden ever! i figure we're creative people, we can come up with better ways to handle our stress if we only put our minds to it. best wishes for your son's health, and thank you for your freebies!

It's called "thread drift" and it's very common. You'd be surprised how few posts of long threads are devoted to the subject at hand sometimes and how far off-topic discussions can wander. Actually, aside from some joking around, this thread has stayed on target surprisingly well.
