Over at Daz there was a discussion recently about over/under water renders, might have some useful stuff there as well.

Come visit us at RenderGods.

Ignore the shooty dog thing.

To get started may like to download menno's underwater package. This contains a water material (very good as a volume or surface material) and a sky for use with an underwater scene. Adjust the fog and haze as they are fairly heavy in the default to suit your picture.

Available from:

Go to downloads and click on the whale picture

Hope this may be useful.....Dennis

I prefer a two render approach to doing underwater scenes. The first render contains all the objects, terrains, plants, etc... I stick that render on a 2d plane, then using spheres and cones I create a second render with water murkiness effect. I have a sample in my gallery if you want to see. I went with a greenish tint just to be artsy. I could have easily went with a more natural color. Hope that helps and good luck!
