Pockets. Model or not model? Wondering what the concensus is on modeling pockets, say on a german wwII tunic. What do you clothes makers do? Bump map or mesh? Thanks.

I would bump map and texture .. it'll look descent enough and will not add poly's. Unless i needed to put something in the pocket then i'd model it..

You can always shift the polys out for pockets so there is very few extra polys, just overlap the top so there is no poke through.

Modeling it would be better for open/close and put things in morphs. Bump, displacementand textures for low poly count. But really how much of a poly count can a extra piece of cloth really cost.

For a German WWII tunic i'd model them thinking they do stick out a bit, tighter stuff is ok textured, like jeans and the like......Steve

thanks, I have modeled them. It is amazing that the first version of my tunic to many days and many hours. Now after that much practice, I made my new one in less than 3 hours. And I have so much practice with scaler and quick conform, that it is cake as well. Perhaps I can tunr out some decent stuff someday.
