Subject: Please help with P5/P6 MAT creation

Let me explain... I use JHoagland's MAT Creator, which is great for P4/Propack MATs but doesn't seem to support what I need for my P5/P6 MATs. Even selecting the P5 option doesn't give me the amount of control I need. For example, the Bump maps connect to the correct node but do not set the bump strength correctly. The bumps seem to vary arbitrarily in either strength or the texture strength itself, or both. Also, I cannot set the Highlight_size to lower than 0.1, which is far too big, since most things are set to 0.03333 or lower. I don't want to use the Material Collection option because that will leave P5 and Material Room shy people out in the cold. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'll be the first to admit that my MAT Pose Creator was designed for Poser 4/ Pro Pack users. The option to "Create P5 Style MAT Pose" simply creates additional nodes from the existing P4 material information. Currently, there is no way to tweak the settings on individual nodes using my program. The workaround is to change the Material Collection file to a regular MAT pose. First, save your material collection to the Materials Library. Then, edit the file in the text editor: change the "$CURRENT ACTOR" line to "figure" and change the file extention from "mc5" to "pz2". I don't have Poser open right now, so you may want to double-check these instructions. Basically, compare the material collection file to the MAT pose and see what lines need changing. ;) --John

there is a nice python script "Poser 5 MAT Writer" in the freepository by Netherworks that lets you create Poser5 MATfiles. You will need to read the ReadMe to see how it works :) Michal 4blueyes

Thanks, both of you. I'll look into both options. John, if you're ever planning on an update to MAT Creator, you'll definitely have a buyer here.

I made a free app that convert P4 MAT pose to P6 MAT. Depending on what you are doing, there is also a "Material Mixer" module, that allows you to change the texture in any existing MAT pose (or any Poser file) by a simple drag and drop feature. Finally, you can use the Material collection feature, then open it in a text editor and change the line "mtlcollection" to "figure". You will also need to change the extension (from *.mc6 to *.pz2). But i must admit i don't know how well a Poser6 MAT file is applied in Poser5. This can also be done automatically by my app. PS. It's working with the framework 1.1, ie on WinXP. PS2. The app is still in Beta... So make a backup before doing the changes !
