Eovia Releases Carrara 5.1 Press Release #55 For Immediate Release Major free update delivers enhanced stability and new features Mountain View, California, USA April 3, 2006 Eovia Corporation, developer and publisher of leading 3D software tools, today released Eovia Carrara 5.1, a free update to its powerful, approachable, complete 3D solution. Carrara 5.1 delivers enhanced stability and an array of compelling new capabilities. New in this release is a redesigned tree modeler which includes wind simulation and a revisited interface that makes it easier to create complex trees by splitting the design process into distinct steps such as trunk, branches, leaves and foliage creation. Additionally, the new Universal Manipulator in the Carrara 5.1 Assemble Room speeds your work process by enabling you to move, rotate and scale objects without ever having to change tools. Improving scene lighting abilities, Carrara 5.1 now lets you apply lens flare effects on distant lights such as the sun. Volumetric light now also fully interacts with transparent surfaces and volumetric objects such as clouds or fog. In addition to new features, Carrara 5.1 has added many important fixes for even greater reliability and performance. Carrara 5.1 full version is priced at $249, with the advanced Carrara 5.1 Pro available for $549. Upgrade pricing for owners of previous Carrara versions starts at $99. Current Carrara 5 owners can download the upgrade free of charge from the Eovia website.

This one (the vol. shadow/cone through transparent material & picking-up material colors) was close to the top of my wish-list! The tree design changes are a truely unexpected bonus for me. Eovia even came through before the next version! This is a very nice suprise.
Thanks to all the Eovia folks!

I'd strongly recommend a clean install. Applying the patch to a week-old install of Carrara5 that already had the 5.0.5 patch on it made for an application that locked up badly within a few moments of entering the VM. A clean install and immediate application of the 5.1 patch restored to normal function. Thank you so much for getting the UV map fix in there. I am very happy with this fix, and I'm modeling away like crazy right now. (I can work around the group names bug for now...)

Mac. No surprise, as there are still a couple Mac-only bugs to play with.

Okay, then I'm an idiot. I had to force quit twice. I re-installed from CD and popped the 5.1 on top of that. No problems since. Take it or leave it.

Great job, Eovia. You guys have hit home runs with both C5Pro and Hex in the last year and it looks like it's only getting better. Thanks.

Works beautifully for me so far. Kudos to Eovia for some good work!

I'm new to Carrara. I chose it over other modellers, including a comparable product I got for free, because Eovia seems to have a solid development process, high respect for the documentation process, and, no seeming, a great attitude toward their customers. I can't wait to pick up 5.1. Dropping an enhancement like this on us for free is a great way to build customer loyalty. M
