I am trying to load Beyond Bents Bamboo model into P4 scene and I immediately get an out of memory notice. This was from the free stuff. I checked the archive and there are hundreds of entries on the subject but nothing seems to explain this. I have had this on several other models (usually from the free stuff). There are three files in the zip: Geometries, Charachter, and Texture. There is an object in the geometries folder which I loaded to the Beyond Bent folder. The other stuff was loaded into each file. Can anyone explain this?

Some models have memory requirements - off hand as an example, I'll use Sanctum's Grim suit which needs a required 500 megs of memory. Perhaps they too have a requirement that your system doesn't meet. I get memory error messages all the time .. and thats because i'm trying to do too much without enough resources.
Just enjoying the Vue.

"Out of memory" doesn't really mean Poser is out of memory in Poser 4. It's the message that Poser 4 displays whenever anything is wrong. Usually, it has nothing to do with memory. Usually, if you unzip a product to your Poser folder, all the files will land where they're supposed to be. (Check "use folder names" if you are using WinZip.) If you still have a problem, try running CorrectReference on it.

Running STOMP (short for Spanki's Three-D Object Manipulation Program, search for STOMP and Spanki in Google and you'll probably find it) on the .obj might help. Some modeling programs make a serious mess of the materials and grouping when exporting to .OBJ, STOMP can fix that. It doesn't reduce resolutions or mess up UV mapping or whatever. I ran STOMP on LisaB's trees. Before STOMP, Poser crashed when 2 or more trees were loaded. After STOMP, Poser could easily handle 5 trees and more. I don't know, but it just might help.

I'm afraid the problem isn't confined to Poser 4. 5 and 6 will put you through it also. Ran into it several times while working on my Red Sonja projects and again on my train. I was told Poser had some serious rendering problems to be dealt with and I'm starting to beleive it- so much so, I'm considering buying Carrara 5 to render projects that Poser won't.

Did you install the P4 update for more then 1 Gig of memory (RAM and Virtual together)?
