Anyhow, I thought you good people would find a use for them also, so here they are. Each texture is 800 x 800 and has a bump map for added depth. Use them where and however you like, with the exception of using them - or any part thereof - in a commercial product. You are free, however, to pass them on to others if you wish, provided it's totally free.

You're welcome! :) I'll cook up a few more and pass those on, too.
BTW, anyone reading this thread who is unsure what to do with these, just drop them onto a one sided square and render.

those bumps would be ideal for displacement as well(with a bit of blur),very clean..nice work :-)
can I have a crack at modifying one?

Quick check- the bump maps (I'm sure there's a Geeptut for bump maps somewhere..on the CD..;) I'm not sure how you can apply them in Poser, and if you can do it in Poser 4. But if that's what you need to do, heck, I bet I could do some of this in Corel Draw..fellin' like an idjit for actually modelling all those greebles..;)

You can stick the bump maps in the Bump channel in P5/P5, or just load them as any other bump map in Pro Pack. Poser 4 users will have to convert them.

Stonemason, those are AWESOME!
What's the purpose of blurring the displacement map? I used the bump map as displacement on my Alien render (though I think I chose a too low setting coz it doesn't LOOK displaced...)
I like your idea with the ambient map to make the center globe glow. I never thought of using ambient maps before. Thanks for the tip!!

Real cool stuff i see here...
Mr. therapy can do some nice photoshop work and Mr Stonemason... well its good to be the king...
Question For Mr. Stonemason ...is there anyway we can "trick" ask you to do a Tut on this kind of mapping editing etc etc ??
I checked all over the net for a good tut but 99% of them have terms like: take image from game..
Copy past from other work etc etc.. and i like to do my own original work.
I come a long way but i think i can't get it just right...
No pressure on this just a question....
like i said no pressure please please please please :}

Reminds me of the old version of Doom, which to me is a good thing. :-) Where did the cool alien up there come from? I don't recognize it.

for Sams original texture the blur isn't essential, but without it you'll get some very crisp edges..I only added some blur to soften the effect & round off the edges
Sam..I'm glad you like it ,having a good base design to work with made it a lot easier...hope to see you making more of them
Chris I'll try & make somekind of tutorial soon
Cheers

Attached Link: The Great Bump Map Disaster
Thanks everybody - great work. I recommend that anybody who wants to get maximum effectiveness from the bump maps in Poser 4 on Windows should read the linked tutorial (memo to self - must correct that Renderosity forum link). In brief, the Windows version of Poser 4 cocks up the conversion of bump maps to .BUM format, but it can be corrected with Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. The difference for something like this is astounding. I assume the bug is still present in Poser Artist, but I don't know for sure.stonemason posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 5:01 AM
people still use P4?!?
Chris..that looks pretty good to me,just try some more dramatic lighting & I bet you'd be surprised

Mid-grey is no bump (#808080 in HTML, or 128, 128, 128 in decimal RGB). Stonemason: Pakled still uses Poser 4, and that's just in this thread. :)
