Working on charcters for my Sgt.Rock story and need german uniforms for James. Anyone know of any? Found some for Micheal 3- made by Naoki- but he didn't put the website in his readme and I can't remeber which one it was! Help please?

LostinSpaceman posted Wed, 19 April 2006 at 10:45 PM

There's a mention of a German uniform by CoreArts over on Vanishing Point's Panzer tank listing but no link to it. CoreArts.com is no longer online and is available for sale so I'm guessing they left the poser arena. They only have two stores left online that I can find with a baseballl and Tae Kwon Do uniform for M3. Those are at Poser Pro's and Renderotica. I'm guessing the german one was for M3 since I don't have it. Since they have stores on those two sites you might try contacting them there to see if the german outfit is still available.

Just give me about a week. I have the rights to redistribute the CoreArts German uniforms, but I am just fixing up the files. The clothes weren't UV mapped, so I am just mapping them, so that people can make better textures for them.

I fixed up all the files, made all the clothes and props use external geometry, fixed some of the texture errors, and re-wrote all the instructions. I will also be releasing the US Paratrooper uniform at the same time.

If youare in a big hurry, IM me your e-mail address, I will send you the files as I have them now, but the UV Mapping is not finished.

Panko, who makes the excellent weapons packs, will also be releasing two packs of WWII field gear props, things like water bottles, magazine pouches, webbing, grenades, holsters, belts, medic packs, etc.

And we are working on some excellent freebies and other WWII products. This wrecked tank is most probably going to be a freebie.

Man I'm glad you foudn this thread. CoreArt's Website is gone and the only two products remaining that I could find were the same on both 'Otica and Pros. Glad I snagged those racing bike uniforms back when I did!

Helgard posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 12:00 AM

Oh, I forgot to say, the German and US uniforms are for Mike 1 and 2, but I am sure that someone could convert them with wardrobe wizard. They are free, so that shouldn't be an issue.

The passengers are the last piece I need to do for the passenger car of my train. I need to get them rendered so I can work them into the texture map for the windows. I have a program called QuickConform that I got from Renderosity. Would it be able to adjust the uniforms so they'd work for James?

xantor posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 4:51 AM

Here is the corearts uniform converted to work with sara using the wardrobe wizard, it converts quite well (some things don`t)

The helmet was just repositioned and resized like fitting hair to another figure.

I tried converting to the p4 male first but the jacket almost fits the p4 male anyway so it wouldn`t have been much of a test.

Helgard posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 5:12 AM

Cool. I am working on the uniforms right now. The weapons are not that good, so I am not going to bother with them, I would suggest the Axis military weapons by Panko for that, and the WWII German Field Gear pack that Panko is busy with will also replace most of the add-on props, like the pouches and gas mask canister, so I am just concentrating on the pants, jacket, parka and boots. We will be making a more accurate and detailed helmet and officers cap soon as well.

It will be a freebie, and their will be some extra textures for free as well, like winter, SS, Afrika Korps and medic as well. Can only make those once I have finished this UV Mapping though.

For Free WW2 weapons, check here in the 3DS section. All will need rescaling for Poser. M1 Carbine M1A1 Thompson (stick magazine, not drum) MP40 (needs some mesh editing -- a couple of parts in the wrong place) PPSh (Soviet submachinegun, with stick and drum magazines) StG44 (or MP44, first assault rifle, with the same sort of mesh glitches as the MP40) Also a German stick grenade. For Soviet soldiers a greatcoat is available in Poser freebies, as well as the ushanka winter hat and Moisin-Nagant rifle. Anthony Appleyard has done a decent M3A1 SMG for the Americans (and they lasted until the .45 pistol round went out of use) and I've also a good Sten gun from somewhere. Most of Naoki's stuff converts well, but you may have to edit the groupnames in the .obj file: Wardrobe Wizard can throw a wobbly with some of the English[space]Japanese names that Poser isn't bothered with. The SS Tank Jacket has the SS insignia; a similar black jacket was worn by Army tank crews, while SP gun crews wore the same in Feld Grau. Similarly, the officer's uniform can be re-coloured and the insignia replaced to represent an Army officer on parade. US troops very early in the war still wore the British-style helmet. A new-style helmet was introduced in British service mid-war. I think Greylight has the old-style British Helmet.

Helgard, Maybe Vanishing Point should fix the items they are selling before they create new stuff. I'm still miffed the Vanishing Point Blackhawk helicopter doesn't animate in Vue. If you animate it in Poser it won't work in Vue. Vue imports only the shell and it's a mess. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. There should have been a disclaimer on the product when I bought it. There wasn't when I bought it now it's useless to me! Daz's Blackhawk helicopter will animate in Vue so everyone expects this one will too, but it doesn't. Vanishing Point should offer a refund if Models are faulty, or are misrepresented.

LostinSpaceman posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 12:56 PM

Um, LM, the Models at Vanishing Point are made for Poser, Not VUE! You can't hold them responsible for the way they act in a software package they were NOT designed for.... well you can do it if you'd like, but we'll all just laugh at you.

Helgard posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 1:05 PM

LMcLean, Vanishing Point is not one person, but like DAZ or Rendo we are quite a few merchants. I did not make the BlackHawk, and I will not be the one updating it.

I think your post is slightly inappropriate, we are discussing WWII german uniforms that will be giving away for free by me, and you manage to turn the thread into a "Vanishing Point" makes crap products thread. What does the BlackHawk have to do with me or this thread?

This is the first I have heard about a problem with the BlackHawk. Have you let me or John know there was a problem? This is the first time I have heard of this, and I speak to John everyday. I have imported and animated the BlackHawk in Vue.I have seen two other movies with the BlackHawk animated in Vue and in Cinema4D. I will test this model, and if I find a problem it will be fixed.

As the modeller who made the Blackhawk, I will apologize for any difficulties you may be having.

However, I will not apologize for the quality of the model. It was designed for use in Poser 4 and above, which means it is guaranteed to work in Poser 4, Poser Pro Pack, Poser Artist, Poser 5, and Poser 6. It is not meant for use in any other program, nor do we state that it's compatible with any other program.
If one of our products is meant for use in Vue, the name of the product will include the words " (for Vue)"... such as the "Executive Helicopter (for Vue)".

I'm sorry you can't get the Blackhawk Helicopter to work in Vue, but it wasn't designed for use in Vue. I would say the same thing to anyone who tried to use it in 3D Studio Max, Lightwave, Bryce, or even DAZ Studio. Yes, these programs may be able to import Poser scene files, but sometimes they can't- that's to be expected with any import process.

Additionally, we have not had any complaints from users using the Blackhawk Helicopter in Poser. You can be miffed, you are free to not recommend this product to other Vue users, and you are free to talk about your experience with this product.
But you have no right to imply that all of our products need "fixing" because they don't work in an unsupported program. Posting a message like this could be construed as libelous.

And like Helgard said, what does this have to do with a discussion about WW2 German uniforms?

Helgard, I apologize if you feel I singled you out, but I meant this model as the culprit not you specifically, and it wasn't me who said Vanishing Point makes crap products those were your words. As for speaking to John, yes, I let John know of the problem immediately after purchasing the Blackhawk and realizing it couldn't be animated in Vue. He said it couldn't be animated in Vue. Here is a link to the problems I posted in March after purchasing the Blackhawk. http://market.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2623458 and here is the response I received from John, I don't want to sound mean, but none of our models are meant for use in Vue except for the "Executive Helicopter (for Vue)". I can try to help you out, but I don't even own Vue Infinite. The Blackhawk uses "geometry switching" to hide and show the blades, but Blue Thunder does not. This could be what's causing the issue in Vue. Try unzipping all of the Blackhawk files (obj files, textures, etc) into one folder and then try importing the model from there. When Vue imports the Poser file, try pointing it at the folder with the obj and texture files. Hopefully this will do the trick. --John JCH Digital Designs Vanishing Point.biz... Innovating the 3D World I have tried everything to get this to work, but it has not worked yet. Helgard, you said you will test this model and it will be fixed. Will customers like myself get a free version of the fixed Blackhawk helicopter? JHoagland, I was not inferring that all your models were problematic. I apologise if that is how it came across. I only meant that the Blackhawk was not working in Vue. I have used other models at Vanishing Point with great success, but as a customer I hope you can see my frustration. Please offer to refund a product if it doesn't meet a customers requirements, and please post a message stating that the blackhawk is not animatible in Vue. Helgard, said he would test the model and it will be fixed. Will customers like myself get a free version of the fixed Blackhawk helicopter?

LMcLean,

Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh, I was just a bit upset that something that had nothing to do with me was hijacking the thread.

Anyway, I have just imported the BlackHawk into Vue, with a 4 second animation. I didn't set lights or textures, and I purposefully slowed down some movements so that you can see them working. All the blades, doors, flaps, morphs, etc, work perfectly fine.

If I can replicate your problem, I can see if there is a way to fix it. The proplem may be caused when using the geometry switching functions, as I don't know if all versions of Vue support that. Which version of Vue are you using, and are you using the geometry switching?

Here is a still from the video, sorry about the overlighting of the scene, I was trying to get it bright enough to see everything and I may have slightly overdone it, lol.

Let me know exactly what steps you followed for the animation, and I will see if I can copy the mistake, see what is causing it, and fix it.

If it needs fixing, and if I can fix it, then of course the fix will be free, lol. All part of the good service. Sorry, if I had looked at that other thread I would have known about this sooner, my mistake, next time just contact me directly.

(One other thing, when you import the BlackHawk into Vue, Vue loses the link to the reflection map, just the way Vue works, so you have to reset that in Vue materials, or change the reflection values.)

LMcLean posted Thu, 20 April 2006 at 2:30 PM

mdbruffy, My personal apologies for hijacking your thread. Helgard, Thanks for posting the movie. I am using the latest version of Vue Infinite. ver. 5.09 i don't even know what geometry switching is so I doubt I'm using it. As for my working method, what I do is animate the helicopter in Poser then import it into Vue. When it imports the Rotors and Blades are missing along with other geometry. Here's the heli animated in Poser.

One thing would go well with this figure, the late-war peaked field cap. I'm not sure if, strictly, it's the same as the cap worn by mountain troop, or part of the tropical uniform such as worn by the Afrika Korps, but for characters in the background I suspect you could get away with it.

ranman38 posted Sat, 22 April 2006 at 10:48 AM

I will work on the peaked kind of floppy hat that tank commanders wore, as well as a triangle stile hat that the crew often wore. Who knows, I may be able to put out a crew coverall style pretty quick by adapating a race car driver suit I have made.

I will also upload some more textures for the tank commander suit. Camo and field grey.

Waffen,  Excellent job on the field caps. I made mine pretty quickly and was not trying to make it ultra accurate, more of an accessory really. But, if someone wants "posed" Tank commander pictures, or close-ups, I would highly recommend your caps!  Great work.

I appreciate the comments everyone, I have more stuff to contribute, and will try and get a solid place to offer the fruits of my labor.

Since I started this thread looking for uniforms for my Sgt.Rock project and the train I'm working on, thought everyone would like to see what I've got done so far. The window images are rather small, I'm afraid. But on the other hand, this will allow me to use the figures at other points in the story.

The uniforms I've used so far are both ranman38's soldier and Naoki's. Looks like the car's going to be segregated- soldiers in one half and officers in the other. sounds about right

Some of you have asked to see the artwork I used to put the soldiers into the passenger car. I agree it came out way to small to see much detail. As You'll see, it's just the soldiers, seats and a window in the background. At that size, not much else was needed or could be added. actually, by the time, everything was said and done, very little of the artwork ended up being used.

Really ?  That's a pity.  Your groups of people have been nicely posed.

infinity 10- Thanks for the comment. Thing is, the train will be seen-primarily- at a distance, So there's a chance, that by the time the story is actually done, even this much will be hard to see. But even then, I think it'll look better than the blank white windows.

mrsparky posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 6:24 AM

mdbruffy - heres a simple soulion to for respresenting  windows.

I used something like these on some freebies recently because there was no interior.

The trick is not to use too much of a repeating pattern and use something that gives a small sense of depth where non actually exists.

Not to further hijack the thread, but I noticed that my german soldier pants still has an error in the left knee. I was able to fix the mesh. Would it just be best to upload a fixed mesh to freestuff? Or completely reload my whole figure? I believe it will work, just to load a new obj??? Not sure, haven't tried it yet. Let me know if you have experienced this before. Thanks.

Hi all,

I didnt know there was so much WW2 interest.  Do you guys want authentic battle environments?  If there any interest in a model of the Brest-Litovsk Fortress (first attack of Barbarossa)?  I have 80% modeled it -- its enormous and detailed.

mdbruffy posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 4:34 PM

mr.sparky- if it's okay, I'll do a screenshot of your  windows and keep it on file. If and when I use the train again, it might come in handy.

ranman- didn't notice any problem with the soldier's pants when I used them, might just depend on the pose. And you didn't hijack anything- this thread was started in search of uniforms- and you're talking uninforms. If there hasn't been too many downloads yet, I would think it would be the easier fix to just upload a corrected figure. Then it's fixed and done and folks won't have to search for both the original and the patch.

muralist- unfortunately, my stort deals with a train and the bridge it has to cross. Sound like a great model though.

ranman38 posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 4:59 PM

I would be interested in environments.

I have had over 700 downloads, so, I am not sure what to do. I have discoverd it takes a new obj and a new cr2 to fix it.

mdbruffy posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 5:05 PM

Still sounds like the simpliest fix is a new upload of the entire, corrected file.

Helgard posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 5:37 PM

Muralist, I would love that environment. I am working on two other environments as well.

mdbruffy  - no problems - use as desired.  (same goes for everyone else.)

If you need a lossless version IM your email address and I'll send you  the original .BMP file

Muralist I would like that environment, too.

if you have had problems with my german soldier pants mesh having a break in the left knee, you can go here

http://www.vanishingpoint.biz/freeitemdownload.asp?freeitemid=321

and pick up a fixed version. This will replace everything, or you can delete the m42pants.obj and m42pants.cr2 and replace them with the new one of each.

Attached Link: German uniforms on Vanishing Point

In case it hasn't been announced yet, the German uniforms are now available in the Free Stuff section at Vanishing Point. Also, we are happy to host these items at Vanishing Point so you don't have to spend $27.95 on a hosting site. :)

Though, you can get much cheaper plans if you shop around: some hosting companies offer plans for $7.95 a month for 5G of space. Just make sure you don't use a "free" hosting company: it may be free for you, but the hosting company may annoy your visitors with unwanted pop-ups, banners, cookies, and other annoyances.

And I don't mean to sound nit-picky, but why are there Renderosity product license files in your zip file? ;)
