Well my order is in (at long last).....
I've been making do with an old P4 1.8 GHz running 756 MB RAM for yonks (it's 5 years old now).

Put an order in for a Dual Core P4 3.4 GHz with 4GB of RAM, setup for dual monitors with two 256MB NVidia Graphics cards and 2 x 250GB STA HD's.  Oh and a 24" monitor that has a max res of 1920 by something......  The whole time the poor guy who took the order kept saying they only joke about anyone ordering this sort of setup at the store and all I could think of is "Poser is probably going to run out of RAM anyway!!!".  It's also funny how different communities approach computing too, the higher end systems are common among the graphics world.

Anyway, moral of the story..... none really but I'm wondering if Poser is ever going to get serious about optmising it's code and memory management??? (dream on I know......)

I think it's an ever evolving and rather depressing circle.  Hardware comes out that should run anything and then someone comes up with software that needs something better.  Both sides drive each other and sometimes I think it drives me crazy!

Oh and the old system still goes (even if you can make cups of coffee while it boots..... and dinner too!) lol

Sometimes, my BEST cup of coffee is the one I make while waiting for my computer to boot.  It teaches me that there's some thing in life just not worth getting agitated over.

Me thinks it's easier just to leave the thing on all the time! :)

Maybe the fact that we really haven't heard anything about Poser 7 is because e-frontier is rewriting it from the ground up to work more efficiently and take advantage of things like 'hyper-threading' and 'dual core' that many newer systems have.

Although there's the possibility that they'll leave the memory problem in, as a "legacy" thing.

lol
It's possible I give my fair contributoin to it.  But since I don't drive (being vision impaired) I don't have that additional contribution :).

Don't even joke about that Modus!!!!!

Would it depress you utterly to know that Poser 6 will only use about 1.2 Gb of your memory, and that dual core has no impact on its performance? On the other hand, you now have plenty of ram and CPU left over to do all those other exciting things you like to get on with while your Poser renders are chunking away...

No not really.....
Poser is just one of a few high demand programs that I use.  Mostly it's for doing complex models in 3DS Max which is probably more memory intensive than Poser.

I usually have 2 or 3 programs running at once and the dual core and dual monitors will do nicely for that.

It'll be out of date soon enough but it should last me a while (I hope :) ).
