I am a beginner of modeling. I am learning to use Wings 3D and considering Hexagon 2. I am looking for an economical editor for modeling, rendering and animation which is sohisticated enough to do almost everything . You know Wings 3D is free and Hexagon isn't. What features of Hexagon makes it better than Wings 3D? Hexagon users, what do you use it for? Any better suggestion?

If you're looking for something that does modeling rendering and animation, then don't look at Hexagon.  Hexagon only does modeling and texturing.  You'd be better off trying out programs like Blender, Carrara, Cinema4D, LightWave, 3D Studio Max, XSI and Maya. Those programs offer everything you are looking for. If all you want to do is model, Hexagon is a solid program but it's interface isn't for everyone. I suggest trying out the demos of programs you are interested in and use your experience with that as a decision for purchasing.

I want to try Hexagon 2 demo but it is not available. Anyone know where to get it?

I have to go along with Teyon, Try out the demo's first. Even the software houses have to admit that  a given interface isn't universally popular, ( unless someone comes up with one that reads your mind ), and there are as many as there are app's.  If you're looking for economical, Blender is free, and very good... it does do it all... and a few things that surprise people. If you just want to get a handle on it all, but want to start slow, I'd suggest Anim8or... no, the "8" belongs in there. Lou.

Teyon's spot on , I've used quite a few packages at various price levels and most have their good and bad points, and a different feel. Try them and see, above all enjoy yourself!

On the side..... you said you wanted to try Hexagon 2... Daz is having a major sale with it....  Here's the deal... you have to join their "Platinum Club"... about  $30 or $40 .... Then you can order it for $1.99 .. that's ONE dollar and NINETY-NINE cents... they also offer it at that price for new members.. probably new Platinum members. The downside, to me, is that it's only download, and NO Disc Burn. I long ago learned that archiving your downloads can keep a whole world of trouble to a minimum. Lou.

My mistake.... the price for Platinum club membership is $29.95 One time fee, and $7.95 per month. One other thing.... they also have Bryce up for sale at $19.95.... As for myself, I am willing to buy something I know I won't need for a while, if I spot a good price... both of those are good prices, and I could live with it if I use something else, after-all. Yea, it is a very good price. And Hexagon 2 seems great for modeling and rendering.That's why I consider it.

Hexagon 2 doesn't even have a demo. I installed Hexagon 1.21 trial instead. It crashes when starting up. My system is more than enough for running Hexagon 2 if the system requirement is right.  Now I doubt Hexagon 2 can even run in my system.

Technically, Hexagon does NOT have a renderer. It does do "instant" ambient Occlusion with the ability to do screen captures of the scene but that's it.  It's also a bit unstable, especially at higher subdivision levels while displacement painting. Still, for the price currently offered, it's a good deal. Hopefully the 2.1 update will have more than just some daz studio or poser specific additions, as the program could be great with the bugs fixed.
