I am on my knees... begging you... and I'm wearing my best japanese schoolgirl uniform... AGENTOSMITH SAN... Talk to the coding team, have them include a link in each ebot to unsubscribe from the thread without clicking the link, going all the way down to the bottom of the page, clicking unsubscribe, cursing on all gods, witches and beings, and then closing the browser window... It's done on every other decent forum imaginable, it's easy to do, even I could write the code, and it would save us TIME. I don't care what someone posted on some thread 2 months into its creation and 253 replies in.

Please AGENTOSMITH SAN... I shall offer many dubiously-disturbing Japanese sextoy sacrifices in your honor... YES, even the used panties and that pillow with an arm attached so you think you're sleeping with someone... I'll burn all my tentacle pr0n and manga collection... I'll even apply for the Japanese Movie Censor Board and put little pixel thingies over people's downunder hair... ANYTHING!!!

xenic101 posted Sun, 30 April 2006 at 1:18 PM

And how about only sending one ebot until we actually view the thread.

Good things: 'osity has dull unvarying text in the ebot so gmail groups them together so it only takes one spot in my inbox. Daz only sends one ebot until I view the thread so I don't have 60 ebots for one thread when i get home from work.

Bad things: Like drac said. Also, the 'osity ebots invite me to click HERE or HERE or HERE, why can't I click to VIEW THREAD? Also the link goes to the top of the thread, so I have to hunt down to the new posts.

Incarnadine posted Sun, 30 April 2006 at 1:26 PM

actually the link takes me to the reply most of the time.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

draculaz posted Sun, 30 April 2006 at 1:30 PM

yeah, it does. depends how far down the reply is... because if you notice in the url, theres's a &ebot_calc_page#message_id.. that #message_id gets you to the message in question.

line breaking the HERE and HERE lines from each other would also help, because depending on the length of the title of the thread, it gets moved from one place of hte page to another, so i have to hunt it down...

xenic101 posted Sun, 30 April 2006 at 1:33 PM

you're right. I wonder what I was thinking about, now there's a complaint missing and It'll never get fixed if I can't remember what it was. :(

PJF posted Sun, 30 April 2006 at 4:55 PM

You guys need to complain in the Community Center forum as well as here. I keep harping on about the ebots in there but unless there's more variety in the complainants, they can dismiss mine as the rantings of a sad anorak...

...

...

And you can all sod off, right now. ;-)

draculaz posted Sun, 30 April 2006 at 4:59 PM

when i've complained directly to the guy who does the programming, he told me to bork off. i'm asking AS hoping that he'll get the message out to higher spheres of.... well, if not thought, certainly decision.

PJF posted Sun, 30 April 2006 at 5:36 PM

Yeah, but drac, he's even younger than you; and if you used your usual diplomatic approach it's no wonder...

Getting staff agreement helps. I asked for the option to hide signatures and an admin ageed. Job done.

Mind you, I bet the code-kid a fiver that he'd end up changing the ebots, so maybe he's holding out in the vain hope I'd actually pay up.

.

draculaz posted Sun, 30 April 2006 at 5:56 PM

PJF, I even amazed myself with how civil and diplomatic I was to the code kid. It's not a question of how I asked, it a question of a guy who just wouldn't budge.

I'm amazed at the obstinacy and blindness. Every single effing forum I frequent(ed) has link out in the open, so you don't have to keep the dem HTML code in your mail program. Not Renderosity. Every single effing forum has one ebot untill you visit. Or at least sends periodic (periodic) reminders of a thread. Not Renderosity. Every single effing forum has smilies included with the reply, and clickable. Not Renderosity. Every single effing forum works with Opera. Not Renderosity. Rolleyes. In all caps.

PJF posted Sun, 30 April 2006 at 6:31 PM

drac, I hear you.

I think they had an admin-consult and decided things were all hunky-dory. Such is group-think. I reckon they don't have a clue how aggravating the current arrangement is. I've given up now and just make sure I uncheck the notify box when I post. I have a message-rule folder to catch any that I forget. I rely on the post-bumping to see new responses.

What really gets me is that it is all so pointless. The ebots were fine before.

sorry..still clawing the imaginary vision of Drac in a Japanese schoolgirl outfit out of my brain..;)

Why doesn't anyone just uncheck the 'notify me when someone replies' ? I don't even think about it anymore.. dont' get ebots, except on pictures..

the current display I have shows the most recently responded to (which gives some threads a 2nd or even 3rd life), so it's a compromise, but so is much of life..;)

hmm... usually as a coder i feel a need to defend other coders when i agree with them but this time i'll have to say that sounds so not done... shame on u coder dude for waving away such an easily fixed bug!

I've got another stupid bug that they will probably never fix either.

When I'm at work I loggin without using the remember me. Now I used to do this before and I'd log in once, just once and could traverse the site. Now when I login, if I click I link to a gallery or other such place, it makes me login again, sheesh, how dumbass is that.

Ang25 posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 11:14 AM

Pakled, I've got a question for you. When you say . . .

Why doesn't anyone just uncheck the 'notify me when someone replies' ?

Do you mean that you don't have to do this every single time you write a reply in a thread? Just curious. Cause I have to always remember to uncheck that dumb box, which I mean I had to do it before the changeover, but it would be nice not to have to worry that I'll slip up and forget and get a deluge of ebots.

Rayraz posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 12:03 PM

ang. the double login is probably ' cuz the forum runs on php and the gallery runs on the old ez script still. I expect that problem to be solved as soon as they switch over to a php gallery. or did they already do that?

hey, it just occured to me. Imagine the chaos that will ensue when they break the galleries. sorry, fugg up the galleries. wait no, completely ruin the galleries. damn, how do you spell upgrade?

At work during our breaks, yes they are kind enough, for the moment in letting us use the pc's for personal stuff. They do however, let us know that it's a privlege and can be taken away.

"link out in the open"

Btw...Isn't more of a pain to have to copy/paste the url??? Wouldn't you just want to be a single click away from the thread coming up?

I posted up all these suggestions, but I myself do not care if the whole url "typed" out. Don't need it to be, just click the link. Easy, fast.

Have you any idea how many ebots I myself as a staffer get in one day??

LOL at Pakled! Yeah, Drac as a Japanese schoolgirl is a scarey thought! Kinda like"Gogo Yubari" , but with hairy legs.😉

Rayraz posted Wed, 03 May 2006 at 10:54 AM

Comon, do you really think a talented artist like drac would forget such basic things as shaving his legs before dressing up as a japanese schoolgirl??

(oh shit, come to think of it. I think he really would just not do so on purpose )

No, you misunderstand me. What I want is what we had before. Instead of the link being hidden behind the stupid word "here" (which is very bad web practice anyway), is that the link is hidden behind itself. That is, the text inside the anchor tags is the link. Like this one http://www.renderosity.com/. That way the link won't be lost if I turn off HTML in my mail program. And the majority, or possibly all, of mail programs I tried automatically make a written link clickable.

AgentSmith posted Wed, 03 May 2006 at 5:59 PM

No misunderstandment, but I didn't know if you turned off html in an e-mail program...html links would still work.

Hmmm...still no drac.

Well, maybe if Drac didn't feel like shaving his legs he could wear a Taiwanese schoolgirl uniform.😉 Believe it, or not, these girls were students at a secretarial college in Taipei where I taught English. They also wore skirts, but we were going on a "field-trip" that day. I believe Sting wrote a song I can very well relate to. I'm the "Foreign Devil" in the back.

So, what you’re saying is, that after all these weeks the PHP Renderosity site still sucks wind? That no one is doing anything about our grievances and no one has even come around to sending out notice that our problems are being worked on? And I’m especially surprised that Rayrez is even sounding in because he just hates these f___ked up forum rants high-lighting these coding inequities but now he’s sharing a few rants of his own, how delightful.

AgentSmith posted Thu, 04 May 2006 at 1:00 AM

No...after re-reviewing this entire thread, no one here has said any of that.

In fact, the subject that started this thread;

"have them include a link in each ebot to unsubscribe from the thread without clicking the link"

Has been taken care of about 12 hours after I posted about it to the PHP programmers.
