What the heck is going on with the site today!!!!

5 minutes to open a forum to get to the thread list.

5 minutes to open a thread.

5 more minutes to  enter a reply and sometimes it times out so you have to retry and wait 5 more minutes.

5 minutes to get an edit window.

5 more minutes for your edit to go through, if it goes through at all and doesn't time out.

5 minutes to mark forums read.

This is insane and very frustrating !!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you.  I have been having problems all day getting Renderosity to load.
No problems with other sites so its got to be RO where something is bad wrong. :(

Well i haven't hit the 5 min mark yet but 2 and 3 minutes are becoming more and more common. Perhaps the site should be renamed... 'Rendereventually'

Attached Link: The Announcement

There is an announcement addressing today's slowness. We're having to run a script to fix a problem encountered during the conversion that we have had complaints about.

Would this also be the cause for the 'gallery area' crawling? And, for all prior such crawls? Referring to an earlier thread here, to make 'one' reply instead of duplicates (Speed and the lack thereof) ----Dear Willamsn: Hello. I read your response(s) in the earlier thread in parentheses. I was glad to hear you say that since mps was able to access all others sites fine that it wasn't a problem with mps's computer. Then,  you went and threw all of that away, my good man, with saying, "However .....". I have been at this site a couple of years. ALL those in the above parenthesised thread who mentioned having similar problems were, likewise, ''howevered'' ..... in my humble opinion. I don't know how long you have been at Renderosity. However ..... I cannot even begin to tell you of the vast numbers of those here I have met in my many travels, who have brought up the speed issues at this site. Many, if not most, on high speed connections.  In lieu of any other similar sites in comparison. I guess, kind soul, I simply do not understand it when someone just cannot come out and 'admit' it when they have a problem area(s) and simply tell those in question when things could be expected to return to a more normal flow? For the record, I'll begin first. I am not the brightest bulb in the room. I freely admit it. I don't know how to program computers. However .... although my IQ is barely, slightly higher than my shoe size, I am quite able to ascertain when my trusty old computer is running slower than molasses and at  which site(s) they occur. ''Waiting for www.renderosity.com..."  is ingrained in my grey matter. What little I still have left.  SMILE AND PEACE. My best, TallPockets.

How long does it take to run that damn script? I'm getting page does not exist messages today it takes so long that it tims out!

Cheers posted Thu, 04 May 2006 at 3:19 PM

This needs to be bumped again...this script seems to not have worked.
If Renderosity want people to use their site and services then they need to compete with other forums on the speed front at least.

I'm getting bored waiting for pages to load...it's like extracting teeth and nearly as painful.

Sorry, I know much work has been done to modernize the forum, but it's not much good if they take an age to load.

Cheers

Yep, painful is an apt description. The site is much slower today than it was yesterday.

''Also, next weeks sometime we will be taking the forums down temporarily. I don't know when yet, but you will see an announcement about it a few days before it happens, so don't worry. We just found a flaw in the database design that could be contributing to site slowness. We could fix it behind-the-scenes while y'all use it, but it could take ten or fifteen hours that way versus just a few hours while taking them offline.''

(Quote in another thread from Williamsn) ....

Thank the Lord! I am NOT YET crazeeeeeeee . WINK.

BTW - the prior 'forums' here had a 'printer friendly' type version for those who wanted to use as an option. So, in my case and that of others, when used, it would ''fit'' the text into the monitor screen without having to SCROLL left and right, repeatedly, to read each 'line' of text in each thread. Is this do-able??? Thanks, T.P.

T.P., sadly I think you are wasting your breath...I think the site is just permanently S-L-O-W. Anytime we remark about the slow speed of the site, we get any one of several answers:

  1. The "code" is being re-written and we'll be converting it over "very soon..." Once that's done the site speed will just fly! Or,
  2. We're running scripts right now to fix a small glitch, but after it's done in  X   hours the site speed will just fly! Or,
  3. What browser are you using? Have you emptied your cache? Have you re-booted? Or,
  4. [my current favorite} (fill in any Admin's name) says: "The site speed is just flying right now for me!"

Though you claim an IQ that is "barely, slightly higher than my shoe size," you in fact sound very intelligent to me. I actually believe that most of us here have at least our fair share when it comes to the "smarts" department. On balance, we're probably fairly savvy when it comes to computers, too. Yet we seem to be treated like we're idiots whenever we mention the slow speed of the site...like we can't tell that EVERY OTHER SITE we go to is fast, but when we log into Rendo, it slows to a crawl.

When you only have a half hour to spend relaxing at Renderosity, it takes away all the fun if you have to wait endlessly for a forum page to open, or a gallery image to appear. Sure, some people can visit during the "off hours" when things are a bit faster. But I can't do that anymore, so it's almost always slow. It's been a big loss for me, and it just makes me sad.

So much for high-speed internet access, I guess!

This place has been an 'on again-off again' for a long long time. I was hoping that with the new forum and marketplace software and servers that this would change...but alas, it has not.

I don't come here much anymore for that simple fact.
I have reached the conclusion that Renderosity will ALWAYS have loading problems.
Really sad to say the least.

..also the problem of not being able to cut and paste text on a post anymore is surely the pits!

And I don't believe any of that anylonger. This site is getting slower by the day and taking longer and longer to load. Something isn't right here and I'm not saying so I won't be bashing anyone. They can fool some of the people some of the time but they can't fool all the people all the time.
