Anyway.. my very first attept ev0r of making a humanoid. I think I like Hexagon...
And to keep this Poser related: Someone expressed doubt that Shahara could jump from being a texture maker and to do a character. Well, I made this one last night. From a sphere, no less, it's all extruded extrusions from that sphere that is his head.
And again, this was made in a couple of hours, and with no previous modeling skills (when it comes to organics/box modeling/Hexagon) WHATSOEVER.
So my conclusion is: Yes, Shahara could very well have made the jump from texture maker to figure maker. It's not really all that difficult.
(of course I'm well aware that this is a pathetic excuse for a male character, but... in some small way I think it proves something anyway...
at least it proves that Hexagon is easy to use LOL)

I am reserving judgement on the droolworthyness of Brandon Routh. Yes, I have downloaded the trailer.

I'm not tossing him G I'm not a tosser.
Seriously, hexagon is the easiest program I've tried yet, for organic modeling. Have you checked out the first video tutorial? The "Space Cow"? That's how I learned how to do Kent. By watching that and getting an idea of just what was possible at all :m_grin:
And honestly it took only some 6 hours total from start to this.

I think you traced the mesh of gumby and Mr. Bill. And somehow a mesh magically sprang forth that you couldn't possibly have created as you have no modeling experience.
On a serious note, It was the speed of the modeling that cause the mesh to melt. You have to take months to work on a complex human form to keep it from doing exactly that.

I don't really see that we aren't getting along - I don't think anyone has slammed the effort put into trying to model the figure and as a first attempt it's a great effort - I doubt if I would even try such a project.
People have just tried to inject some humor into the thread.
Seriously I would be interested in a "Gumby" type character if TrekkieGrrrl was to go down that path and develop the body she already created.
Hell I'd even like a model of Pokey or the Blockheads if they were available.
I could relive my childhood - but this time in CG!

Wasn't there a Gumby character available for Poser at some point? I'm fairly sure...
Now, being unfamiliar with Gumby myself... Anything specific I should watch for to make it as gumby-like as possible, if I decided to actually make one? It should be easy enough to model...

I think gumby* would be pretty easy to model with hex. Boning him (no pokey jokes, please) wouldn't be overly complex as he was just a piece of rubber with wire inside. No specific joints to consider.
create the general outline and extrude. Images should be readily available on the net.

should also point out that Prema holds the trademark on Gumby and should be consulted before releasing a likeness.

Kent is a great start though....and as frustrating as meshes can be...they certainly are fun. I just hate doing the joints in Poser. I have two figures I started last year that are still waiting to be finished.
