OK. Ive been trying to figure this one out, but seems it keep beating me. I am tryin to save 5 scenes in DS with my props preloaded, light set, pose, etc etc.

I save the file as a scene in DS. I take that same exact file to another system that has DS, try to load the scene, but wont load properly. I gots the lights, the pose, etc etc, but none of the props. Now the props are in a different directory, but it has the SAME Runtime Structure as the first original computer, its just in a different location on the drive.

I know that in Poser, as long as U have the runtime directory setup to where the files are (the props, MATs, etc etc), it works no matter which computer U are on and no matter what location, but that does not seem to work for DS.

How can I save the DS Scenes so that it can be loaded from any system? Is there something special for it?

THANK YOU...

Just as Poser keeps the mesh (the OBJ file) in the geometries folder and the texture in the Textures folder, so DAZ|Studio keeps the mesh in its own format in the Data folder (in the first DAZ|Studio content directory for saving, though it will read from the Data folder in any D|S content folder). You need to open the props in the destination maachine's copy of DAZ|Studio and save them as a scene file to create a local copy of the D|S mesh files (or if they are your own props you can find the subfolders of the Data folder named _ and ciopt that as well as the .daz scene file).

Thankx for the info, very very much appreciate it. One more thing. If for example:

User1: unzips files to say c:runtime

User2: unzips files to say c:program filesdazstudiocontent

All I have to do is give em the scene file, the pgn thumb and the files under the data folder and it will work for both of em, correct?

THANK YOU...

Not exactly. The only file that they can copy where they want is the .daz scene file. The files that are under the data folder will need to stay under the same hierarchy than in your computer. If you have also textures maps included in your scenes they also will need to be copy at the same location as in your computer. To try to simplify I build my Zip file to be unzipped in the Daz main folder (Where the DazStudio program is) If the user want to move later on the scene file at another location they can do it by drag and drop from the program itself later on. You still can download one of my free DazStudio prop and unzip it in an empty folder to see the hierarchy.

So basically what U sayin is that the item package must be installed in the same folder as where the original scene file was created.

If the original scene file was created with files from say c:runtime, then no matter which computer U goto, the files must be installed in the same folder (c:runtime)?

Whereas, Poser U only need to make sure the files are under the runtime hierarchy folder.

Is that correct?

Thank You...

No - as long as the items were in a mapped directory (a folder you had selected as a Poser or DAZ|Studio content directory) then the requirement is only that the geometry and texture files be in the same relative loaction in a folder the other user has set up as a Poser (for textures) or DAZ|Studio content directory - just as with a Poser Runtime. You should of course distribute only textures or objects you have made, or which permit redistribution - for other items the recipient must own them, and must save them to a .daz scene file to create the geometry files if needed.

Hmm still quite confusing, and sorry for this but maybe a clearer picture would give clear this whole thing.

Original User: The product creator made the scenes from the following folder:

c:runtime

Now, the user downloads the product with the preloaded scenes. User now unzipps the product in the following location:

User1: c:program filesposer4runtime

User2: c:program filesPoser6Runtime

Will either of the users be able to load the preloaded DAZ Scene Files?

Reason why I am still a bit confused on this is because I did a test and didnt work.

I have 3 systems. On one of the systems I create the scenes in DAZ. The original system where the scenes are created, I have the product installed in c:daz filesruntime

Now, I goto the other 2 systems. I unzip the product on the hard drive, BUT, the product is unzipped in a folder c:program filesposer4runtime.

When I go and try to load the DAZ Scene files, bam, no go.

Now the product is zipped up like a Poser product would be, with the proper directories saved.

Why wont the product work on the other systems? I mean I choose to install my products in a particular folder, and other users may choose to install theirs in whatever folder they want to, so sharing the daz scenes would be difficult if the proper/all files are not included.

I am just lookin for a solution to including Daz Preloaded Scenes within the product.

Did you include the native DAZ|studio geometry files - the Data_ folder, in the first DAZ|Studio content directory? If not the product is incomplete - there is absolutely no rference to the OBJ file in Geoemtries in the .daz scene file.

Ahhh, OK, that is what I was lookin for. I knew U said something about the data directory, but I got confused there for a sec about that.

Will do, and see if that will work, hopefully the data folder does not contain too big of files, cause the zip file is already at 30 MB, lol.

Thankx guys, much appreciate it.

You should try the contentcollector script made by Guandalug. This is a fantastic script that tells you where all the needed files for a scene are located and in the new version it also zip it automatically in a archive so you can easily shear with others a really great tool!

Lol, that funny, I just found this out too, a few hours ago. I was lookin for a shadow tool, to speed up my renders, and I found that website, and found the collector tool as well. THANK X JRoulin, much appreciate it.

Thank You. I was able to gather my product with all the proper files needed for DS to work properly. U can see it here.
