Hi. I took a leap of faith and bought Carrara 5 Pro, but I'm having a few problems. First how do I install the content cd that came with the program.
Secondly I am importing terrains that I made in Bryce, and the first terrain imports fine. Even the second terrain imports fine but when I try and move it, the terrain suddenly grows to fill the whole screen, or it shrinks to a tiny dot barely visible on the screen. I am clicking on the move tool, so I don't know what is wrong or how to fix it. Each terrain from bryce is 4096 X 4096. Any help will be much appreciated.
If only bryce could export grouped terrains....
Thirdly (Is that really a word?) is it possible to create custom skys, or can I only select from the pre made skys?
Toon Pro render is really cool, but is it possible to use more than one render option at a time. I mean can I combine Toon Pro with Noir, or anything goos?
I haven't tried to import Poser people or Wings models yet. That's for another day.
Can Carrara do volumetric fire, or will I have to simulated with volumetric clouds like I did in Bryce?
Is there away to turn the ground off? In bryce I can just delete the ground plane, but I can't seem to find that in Carrara.
I am really enjoying the program so far (several hours now) and finding it a little more confusing than Bryce, but then I've used Bryce for almost ten years now.
Thanks for all the help.
Sincerely,
David

Unzip content cd to the directory where you want it. Adding things to the internal browsers requires using the little icons at top right of browser and selecting the folder to add. Not sure specifically about terrains. I am assuming it converted it to an object. My guess from your description may be that you should make sure your group is closed in the tree before selecting the entire grp. I would recommend taking the tour of the interface tho. You could be using the wrong tool. Sounds like you are moving in or out via camera or you are doing that to the terrain. Fire may not do what you want, but you may want to look at primivol plugin for more options. There are ways to simulate looks tho. Toon pro lets you mix and match some, I don't think noir will (just post process effect) and agoos is not for rendering it is a shader option. Depending on what look you may need to post process.
Oh forgot your other stuff. Yes you can customize skys many ways. Turning the ground off for the sky requires unchecking the little box listed there on the general tab to the top right.
No need to think outside the box....
Just make it
invisible.

Another question I though up while playing with Carrara. When I import a terrain from Bryce, which I exported at 4096X4096, will Carrara display the terrain at full size on import, or will it only display the full size when you try to move the terrain?
Anyways thanks for your continued support and help.
Sincerely,
David

It should import it and display as full size. Keep in mind that Bryce and Carrara use a different scale so you may need to adjust size after the import. I have also had issues with importing items and having them mess up when you try to move them. Sometimes Poser models do the same thing. I then just use the Motion tab settings to manually enter the position I want, andmake sure to use the HP>Object button so you dont have the hotpoint center way off in a corner somewhere.
