Has anyone noticed this new character called Farris ? .... I have to admit I very nearly missed her appearance in the RMP, possibly due to the fact that it was poorly advertised.

Looks like a great character tho' .... would be good if she could de-throne the wicked Queen Victoria and the evil Princess Miki LOL

Posermatic posted Sun, 21 May 2006 at 6:19 PM

I'm amazed with the expressions, Kirwyn did a hell of a job with them! They are so nicely done, very detailed.

Miki has a real competitor with Farris in the field of expressions.

Hope that Kirwyn have set a deal with PhilC to give her support in WW, this could propel her active life in Poserdome.

I have seen her and also the good price. But till this figur is ready to de-throne Victoria she will be in the need of Vick´s clothes ;-) I think a nude figure can´t help much for a good render and I´ll see if she will be more useful as Jessi (who was a "cold" for me).

I´ll see ;-)

mylemonblue posted Sun, 21 May 2006 at 8:42 PM

Seems like it may be a cool character. I think the community is more than big enoph to support multiple female characters and no single character can cater to all the various needs and tastes. I know that I'm always on the look out for others.

My brain is just a toy box filled with weird things

Tashar59 posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 12:18 AM

Has anyone bought her to see how she bends? After Miki, It's been a real scare to buy any new figure.

I'm a figure collector, what can I say. She looks a little like a Natalia/Victoria cross.

mathman posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 1:37 AM

I think she looks a bit like "Elle" by Neftis as well. She sure is mighty purdy.

TrekkieGrrrl posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 4:28 AM

She bends very nicely IMO. The knee issues are no worse than on V3 and she has a cute face with a lovely lot of morphs!

She takes Jessi's poses fairly well, with only minimal tweaking (of course the hands are off but hands are often where it goes wrong across characters :o) ) - and still it can be easily adjusted.

I haven't tried V3 poses on her yet, but I expect her to take them equally well.

Look good. Hands are the worse for most figures when using other figure poses. I think it's all the joints.

So you say that the JP's have been done right and not like the poor workmanship of Miki. I'll have to take another look at her. Did you render her in P4 or DS. Doesn't look like any smoothing done as in P5/6 renders. P5/6 do a really good render with low poly figures.

mathman posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 7:19 AM

Hey TrekkieGrrrl, do you think you might be making some morph sets for Farris ?

karanta posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 7:28 AM

Thanks for showing an image Trekkie 😄
Maybe I´ll buy her and make some clothes. Have to make some for Clark too....

To much work - and not enough time 😉

TrekkieGrrrl posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 11:40 AM

I did render it in P6, but at the default rendersetting which didn't include smoothing.

I guess I could make some face shaping morphs for her if there's enough interest :o) - so far the interest for my James Faceshaping morphs has been..erhm.. a bit below expectations... 😉 but the Clark ones are selling ok - then again Clark needed morphs more than Farris and James out of the box - Farris has a lot of interesting morph possibilities built in.

in trekkie's image, I'm seeing the same shoulder and knee deformities as in the vickie series. whether this implies it's a derivative figure, or whether it's just "parallel evolution" (great modellers think alike), I can't say, as I don't own the new figure.

PapaBlueMarlin posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 4:23 PM

I beta tested Farris not too long ago and was wondering when she would hit stores.  She's really a lovely figure.

She uses Elle, V3, and Jessi poses well with a little tweaking.  Her range of expressions are very original.

Trekkie, I might have some other morph requests for you * :P

I think it's more a case of "there's only so many ways to rig a figure for Poser if you want it to be compatible with existing poses"

The shoulders are much better than V3's IMO.

Please don't imply this is a derivative unless you're VERY sure of what you're doing. As we recently saw with the whole Clark debacle, even "innocent" questions can start an ugly avalanche.

PapaBlueMarlin... Sure :o) What?

Trekkie, I'll make my requests at the other site :tt2:

Miss Nancy, the shoulders work fine.  I would agree with Trekkie in that her rigging is of the standard poser type.  Knee deformations are common amongst most poser figures.  Hopefully the poser gods will one day bless us with skin stretching...

Tunesy posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 7:24 PM

Thanks for the heads up.  I missed it.  Looks like a nice figure at a good price.  Off to buy it now...

Miss Nancy posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 7:56 PM

you're right, trekkie. it's probably just the limitations of the poser joint-bending I'm seeing. unfortunately, I have no advance news that it's any different in P7.

Tunesy posted Mon, 22 May 2006 at 10:02 PM

...had a chance to play with it a bit.  Excellent product.  I hope this artist gets some support.  In the mean time I'll hack out some clothes my self :)

TG said: so far the interest for my James Faceshaping morphs has been..erhm.. a bit below expectations maybe because james has a faceroom module? i know i am not buying any morphs for him or jessi because of that. that'd be different for farris.

TrekkieGrrrl posted Tue, 23 May 2006 at 4:41 AM

Yeah but the face room can only do so much... if the morph isn't on the figure, you just can't DO it inside Poser. Like for instance give someone a square nose bridge - OR for that matter fix his drooping eyelids...

As with most of my stuff it originated in something I needed for myself :o) And I needed something to take care of his ever-so-recognizable James-droopyeyes. And then it just took off from there.

But you're right of course, the Face Room helps him a lot of the way, it's just not always enough :o)

nod. yeah, i am starting to run into that now, the limitations imposed by the original morph design. my mistake, for trying to create a morph that looks like an actual person instead of an imaginary one -- the latter are much more easily fudged. noses are a particularly difficult thing. well, you would know about noses, grin. how are your koji morphs selling? better than james's? (not that it's any of my business -- just random curiosity; feel free to ignore.) i can't say i quite understand why one figure is popular and another not so much. people seem to not care about james a whole lot. be interesting to see how farris does in the large field of female competitors. that is rather a good price. hey, she looks a little bit like me in the first promo image -- except my missing tooth is on the left! suddenly i feel moved to make my as yet fledgling human figure a hermaphrodite. i should probably call it a night. :)

Fair Farris

Here is my first render of the lovely Farris. She has a lovely body, terrific joints, wholesome, natural face. She also has lots of cool facial expressions and body morphs to animate with.

I had to render her nekid as there are no clothes available for the lady yet.

Maybe I'm missing the boat here, but how is she better than say V3/S3/A3?

Here is another render I did of Farris. I love her mouth and teeth. She has a very realistic smile.

Is anyone doing any morphs for her?

Who says she has to be better? She's a new character with a different look. Diversity, y'know :o)

As I've already posted in another thread here, I've made some new (and free) clothes for her as well :o)

I didn't know that. I was only making sure that the next part of my hex tutorial worked before I post it. So I posted an image of Farris using the clothes.

catlin_mc posted Wed, 24 May 2006 at 3:24 PM

Is it possible to reduce the breast size on her?

I know lots of folks like the big breasted woman, but since I'm not well developed in that area myself , I'd like to have them a little smaller. lol

Is it Possible ernyoka, and would you consider doing, some body morphs for her?                                         I got your face set for Clark and I'm over the moon about them, you've done some fantastic morphs for him, thank you. 8D

So you're the one who are writing the tuts at Daz, Beryld? :D That was the ones I used :m_grin:

I've just made a thong for her, going to make it conforming now (though really it could as well be a parented prop LOL!)

I may do some morphs for her. First I need to see how she takes off... If there's anyone actually buying her LOL

No, My tut is at PP. T59 one. I have only put the first part up, preparing the figure in hex to model around. The clothes are the next part. Will be posted in a day or two. I'm trying to show how to model in different ways. Hex has many ways to do the same thing.

I only have a few hours these last weeks to write. So much to do and so little time.

Yeah tell me about it sigh

One thing that always has eluded me so far is how to make pants. I mean how to do the legs so that the crotch is tolerable. All attempts I've done so far has been...er... wrong L But Hexagon is so easy to do all other sorts of things that I've so far found difficult, so I'm fully confident there's an easy way to do the pants as well :o)

is eagerly waiting for that tutorial

lululee posted Wed, 24 May 2006 at 5:36 PM

Thanks mathman,

I very quickly made a face texture for her, (nothing that would pass testing but enough to get a different render).

She has a lot of different looks. I wish I had more time to play with her. I am in a video production and quite busy. i would really like to animate her.

pleonastic posted Wed, 24 May 2006 at 6:02 PM

the only real problem with pants is that the standard poser zero pose is unsuited for modelling anything with seams in the crotch -- if you use the "da vinci" pose instead, the one with legs spread, it becomes a lot easier; you can use the same techniques you use otherwise (i see the latest DAZ hexagon tutorial uses lofting; that should work just fine). this is no issue for dynamic clothes, since you can wrap them around a figure in any kind of pose. but you'll possibly have more of an issue conforming the new model -- since i've never yet done that, i don't know what's involved.
