Subject: Tutorial for Photo Line-Up in the Face Room?

Hi,

Poser rookie here.  I'm starting to figure a few things out, but I'm still a bit lost in the Face room.  I want to make use of the photo line-up to make Poser characters out of familiar people.

The e-frontier tutorial doesn't seem to be enough.   I can't tell what the controls on the left side of the front and profile views do.   The only thing I'm able to do with the photo is adjust the dots.  However, the e-frontier tutorial says to "adjust the size of the photo first."

Any help out there?  Thanks!

Never had much luck in this room. I don't think you can make a very accurate face based on 2 photos, no matter how you try. I have seen some reasonable Poser likenesses of famous people, but I'm not sure if they were done in the face room. I think human faces have too many subtle nuances which just can't be reproduced in a program like Poser. But, the best of luck to you and I would be interested to see how you go.

The picture shows what the buttons do.

The icons with the heads don`t affect the photograph, they affect the wireframe (you probably wont have to use these three very much).

If you click on the picture you will see the writing better.

Xantor,

Thanks for the detailed reply and graphic.  I can see how the controls work, but I'm still having trouble lining up the photo to reflect in the figure.  Can I hit you with some specific questions?

1)  Should I always have a figure loaded already, and try to match my photo person to the figure?  Or, should I start with no figure?

2)  I seem to be able to line up the front-facing photo somewhat.  But, I can't seem to line up the profile picture.  Even when I think I'm getting the dots close, the preview image is awfully distorted.

3)   Do I only move the dots and get them in the right place?  Sometimes, the red line doesn't seem to follow.

4)  Once I have the green dots where I want them, how do I then get the figure face to look like the photo?  Apply to Figure doesn't seem to do anything.

Thanks!

1 I usually have a figure loaded to start with but that figure is really there just to "take" the face room face and texture.

2 I have found that it is better to only adjust the front view to get that looking right, because when you try adjusting the side view it badly distorts the texture for the front view.

3 You do only move the dots but most of the lines have handles that you can move to make the curve more or less, so that it fits better.

4 The best way to apply the face is to click on apply shape only and then click on apply texture only, in poser 5 apply to figure makes the head morphs stop working but even in poser 6 it is probably the best way to do it as I said earlier (Not using apply to figure).   Once you do that you might have to set the face morph and the eyes morphs to 1.
