I just got Vue 2 and I love it, but how can I avoid the I'm mapped on a sphere look of the trees on the bottom? I'm still fairly new to 3D so any suggestions will help. thanks Axe

oooh! they dont look mapped on a sphere to me. um... try mapping 'em on a plane?? ;D i think it looks good, and nicely spooky. nice image. :)

It's just the Vue pear tree sunk into the ground to look like bushes. It just looked kinda funky to me. Glad you like it though. thanks Axe

"pear tree sunk into the ground"...mann!!this is the kind of trick I'm after. This is your first render...can't wait to see the rest of your stuff down the line. Spooky all right!....put a raven on the dead tree, darken the sky and some streaking lightning and you find me covering under a blanket. Good stuff...Axe! :)

What a very auspicious beginning! :) Try tilting the pear tree (plum?) so that it isn't level to the ground plane. That should help break up the spherical appearance. Like Mike, I don't really see it as spherical either actually. Looks more like gravity bending the branches with its leaves down toward the ground. Very nicely creepy. I can almost hear the wind blowing! :) Varian -- Treasures d'Esprit

Well,Varian, that was bloodsong who said that. Mike actually agrees with Axe on this one. ;) I can't explain it though, but I don't think I've ever seen it happen in Vue 3. Tell you what I would do, is to make a copy of it and intertwine the two together, and then you could lose the spherical appearance. See, it looks that way because in actuality it *IS* mapped (more or less) to a primitive-shaped object. Vue plants get their appearance from their applied materials, and not so much from zillions of polygons in the shape of leaves, which is a *GOOD* thing actually, since it keeps the polygon count *waaaaay* down. See in the picture? That's the Vue 3 plum tree on the left, and an exact duplicate of it on the right, only the one on the right has just a solid gray color applied to it, so you can see that in actuality the "leaves" are little more than curved planes. So, I don't think there's really anything you could do about it, short of doing as I suggested and add another one to break it all up some. And of course, Varian's idea of rotating it might actually be the better solution, rather than recruiting new polygons into action. BTW, that *IS* a very cool picture there, and I agree with Varian--- looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the future. :) --Mike (who just realized he can place *italics* in messages.. ;)

::thunking head:: Geez...sorry Mike and Bloodsong! But you guys look so much alike! hehe! ;)

Which one is Mike and which is bloodsong? :)

Varian posted Wed, 04 April 2001 at 2:57 PM

Mike is the one with the head that looks like it was mapped on a sphere. ;)

Thanks for the input everybody. Maybe I'll try to rework it a little and see what I come up with. Congradulations on the italic thing Mike!! Axe

Hey Varian, Don't make me turn the bull loose again; you know he's got this mean, destructive side, and I don't think he's particularly fond of fonts; says they remind him of fences too much.... Ahh, well, you know, never try to psychoanalyze a bull! ;)

Varian posted Wed, 04 April 2001 at 10:54 PM

Not my fence! My beautiful, beautiful fence! ~=:o

tesign posted Wed, 04 April 2001 at 11:01 PM

Fence!?....if I were you, I watch my beautiful pants! You know when you are running away from a bull, you know where it would 'jack and jab' first place...LOL! Watch your arse buddy :) Mike unpredictable when he see red!

Yeeps! =:o Y'wanna know something really funny, though? That Mike should mention the bull again today. Has he been mindreading, perhaps? Because I've been offline and busy working on something all afternoon, and that something is in the gallery here now, and when Mike sees it, I might need to keep a close eye on my pants and fences ... and fonts, too! LOL! :D

Lusky tetras do not have horns like bull...LOL!
