Just a quickie:

Is it possible to render a flame in Apophysis over a transparent layer? (would be very nice if you could)

You can render as a .png image with a transparent background.

Any hints on how?

On changing the background colour (whether rendering as .png or not) You're presented with a colour picker (which inherently doesn't accept no colour as a colour)

File -> Export Flame... It's faster as well.

Ah-ha! Excellent.

Cheers for that ;)

in the options click on the "display" tab, and in the lower corner, you can set the transparency. you'll have to render and then overlay it in something like Photoshop or PSP, but it'll get you started.
note: to see what it'll look like, click "show transparency". flam-3 i find works better

When I try to export my flame to render in flam-3, the small window appears momentarily, disappearing almost immediately, and nothing renders.  I have downloaded the latest flam-3 renderer, unzipped it, placed it in my Apophysis 2 folder, pointed Apo at it in my options...and still, nothing!  Any help?

Viv,

Make a folder on C: called "flam3"
Copy all of the contents of your current flam3 folder into the new C:flam3 folder.
Point Apophysis to the new folder.

The problem occurs because the flam3 code doesn't like the spaces in the current folder name... silly, but true...

Thanks Tracey!  That fixed it.  Now I just have to remember that tip on the next update, LOL
