I originally posted in the Posr forum and was advised I should post it here as well.

Im seriously considering moving to the linux distro called Ubuntu and Im wondering if anyone else uses the Windows version of Poser in Wine Ubuntu.

For those who dont know Wine is an emulator type applaication that allows some windows programs to run under linux.

Anywho just wondering if anyone else does it like that and if so are there any helpful tips you can give me.

The one person who might know is Penguinisto.
I seen a few posts by him at PoserPros recently, so that might be the best place to attempt contact.

A couple of years or more ago, I tried running Poser 4 under Wine (can't remember the Linux version), Poser opened but the functionality was seriously reduced, so much so as to be unuseable. I can't remember details now, but seem to remember that the display was the major problem. Perhaps Wine has improved since then, or perhaps later versions of Poser run better. Good luck.

Attached Link: Google releases Picasa for Linux -- and 100+ Wine patches

Les et al,

I heard recently that Google has paid CodeWeavers to enhance/fix Wine so that their new graphics image package could run on Wine.  See link.  I wonder if those 100+ fixes helped Poser any?  Looked through the list of fixes at the time, and many seem to address display issues...

I see that VM Server (www.vmware.com) is now free.

Anyone ever tried Poser under VMware?  Only real requirement for running VMware is a lot of memory (circa 2GB and up).

[ VMware allows you to run Windows (or Linux) as a virtual machine under Linux (or WIndows).  This in theory should allow Poser to run on Windows on a Linux system. ]

Not tried Poser yet, but here's my comments on doing this with Carrara.

It might be worth getting a hardware upgrade, my linux test box is a pentium 1....
