Whenever I go to visit the forums it shows me as not logged in and as a visitor.  I then click on login and I end up in the RMP and when I click on the forum link at the top of the page I can tehn get in.

I'm using IE6 and it doesn't normally give me any problems.

A friend who uses Slimbrowser can't get into the forums at all and they've tried coming from their Vendor Control Room and still can't get in.

Valerian,

We are now using domain wide cookies.  It may be necessary to delete any cookies you have for 'market.renderosity.com' and then logout/login to clear up this problem.

Errmm... How does one do this? I know very little about cookie management.. (I know what they are, just don't know how to manage them. Am using SeaMonkey as my browser...)

Cheers,
Diolma

LostinSpaceman posted Wed, 07 June 2006 at 6:28 PM

Sorry but deleting cookies does nothing to fix this problem and it creates new ones if you have any sites that you don't recall the passwords for because IE deletes ALL cookies. I did, then logged in again and it still takes you to the marketplace as "Visitor" when you follow old forum links.

Miss Nancy posted Wed, 07 June 2006 at 6:49 PM

explorer won't let one delete single cookies anymore? I'm using an older version (5.x) which allows deletion of individual cookies. however, that's not the problem AFAIK. I believe the problem will clear up once they finish adjusting the various databases and servers, meaning it's only a transitory problem (I hope).

Im definately trying to find out what is going on...I had this happen earlier in the day after the switchover to Excalibur...thought it had cleared up tho...seems its back. Its almost as if Im not able to save cookies from here...and I know I have things set right.....going to go check something else..

Ok, peeps..Im using Firefox 1.5 and in my options, I have found if I set cookies to be set from "http://excalibur.renderosity.com" everything works fine then after leaving and coming back to the site..I do not know how cookies are set or allowed/denied in IE, but surely someone who knows will be here shortly to help out ;)

Well IE Used to show cookies in the Temporary internet files folder when you clicked on View Files and you could individually delete them there. I Went there after the first post in this thread suggesting deleting cookies and didn't see any cookies anymore.

The only way I saw to delete them was the Delete cookie button which wipes them out for every site. I may have missed seeing them somewhere else, but the point is, deleting them and restarting didn't help. I still have to relogin several times a session. Let's hope that it does settle out when they're done because it's making the site a royal PITA today!

Jumpstartme2 posted Wed, 07 June 2006 at 7:24 PM

Mizrael....can you find where you are able to manually allow cookies to be set for certain websites?
If you can, try typing in manually this website

http://excalibur.renderosity.com

See if that works..I had to manually type it in Firefox's allowables :)

A change was made today in the way that the Renderosity cookies are being written.

The forums were also moved over to the new server excalibur.

Solution: Logout of Renderosity, Delete all Renderosity cookies from your system and log back in so the new cookie is written.

This should do it...

In IE

  1. Click on the "Tools" menu.

  1. Under the "Temporary Internet Files" click on the "Settings" button.

  1. In the  "Settings" dialog click on  "View Files" (Or just go to "C:Documents and SettingsYournameLocal SettingsTemporary Internet Files")

  1. Click on "View  > Arrange Icons By > Type" To put all cookies together.

5 ) Look around and find which cookie(s) you want to delete and then...well...delete them.

Hope this helps.

yah well I am a rabid cookie and temp file deleter... did you all know that in XP- IN WINDOWS - all the way to the bottom TEMP is a COPY of all your temp files, cookies that one would miss deleting if one only went to the user temp files?!?

That being said, I dumped all and for all day TODAY as well as yesterday, I have had to jump around trying to get into the forums when I am already logged into BOTH the forums and galleries AND MARKET sides... I am getting a PADLOCK during trying to log in on the forum side... I go through it all... then try to go to the forum...and when I get over there, my page is WHITE (not logged in for me) and then I bounce around till I see MY black background and limited number of forum subjects.... it looks to me like the servers are all crossed up?!?!  :(  oh and I DO NOT have cookie problems anywhere else... I know it is the change over... trying to be patient, but was surprised at the padlock thing for log in!

Life Requires Assembly and we all know how THAT goes!

Unfortunately Tom, I knew that but "Cookies" aren't showing up at all in my View Files screen. None of them. Don't know why either. They used to show up there!

Valerian70 posted Thu, 08 June 2006 at 12:56 AM

Did that last night before I posted here (suppose I should have mentioned it but as it is my knee jerk reaction when I have log in issues - clear cookies and temps and start from scratch - I forgot) and it is still messing me about - that and now it takes me to the correct log in screen when I hit log in and then I turn up in the marketplace and not the forums - at least it let me in when I clicked on the forums link.

The ebots for replies to your thread don't seem to be working either, unless my spam filter suddenly started munching them.

Miss Nancy posted Thu, 08 June 2006 at 1:52 PM

I hope the ebots come back for y'all. however, the method for deleting cookies in mac OS differs somewhat from XP (see attached image).

Ghostofmacbeth posted Sat, 10 June 2006 at 10:00 AM

I have tried deleting all of the cookies I can find and it is having issues all over the place today. I don't want to nuke all of the cookies I have on my machine jsut to be able to stay logged in so anyone have a list cause this is getting very tiresome.

StaceyG posted Sat, 10 June 2006 at 10:21 AM

I have passed the login issues on to the proper person, just waiting for an answer and I'll let you guys know.

hewee posted Sat, 10 June 2006 at 7:58 PM

I came and posted from a link in a email on a reply and I was not on the excalibur server. I also did not have to login so that was nice. I then closed down netscape and come back here to the forum and see the excalibur server and have to login.

I tried that, but it doesn't work here (Firefox 1.5 also)  I hope it gets fixed soon, as it is kind of annoying.

Just to be sure you all are doing this:

Delete your cookies for market & excalibur,

configure your browser to accept session cookies & all 1st party cookies, things work as intended.

If they are unable to clear your cookies or  don't allow our auto-login cookies, then you get the behavior that is being described.

Khai posted Sat, 10 June 2006 at 9:45 PM

ok try this one ;)

I come to the forums (Excalibur). I have to login. My name and pass are not saved. I type them in. I'm told there's a validation error, unknown name and password (that HAS to come from the server and has nothing to do with Cookies)
I click Forums (still on Excalibur)...

and I'm Logged in just fine! without re-entering any information at all!

not cookies this time.. it can't be...

StaceyG posted Sat, 10 June 2006 at 9:52 PM

hmmm. let me ask on this one Khai. I'm truly sorry all these login trouble are occuring, I can't WAIT for the whole site to be all merged, ugggghhh:(

Khai posted Sat, 10 June 2006 at 11:29 PM

update

I can login now without entering any name or password... I get a message that I must enter said name and password.... then, on clicking Forum.. I'm logged in.

curiouser and curiouser

hewee posted Sun, 11 June 2006 at 12:31 AM

I have cleared all cookies but still have to login each time to the forums. Before the changes I only had it so that renderosity cookies stayed on my PC. I had market ones only show up if I went other places on this site. Then after the upgrade I had to have market cookies to get to the forum. But now after the change to excalibur I do not see the market & excalibur on my PC. No big deal there as long as the forums remember me and my setting and it does remember but I have to login each time. If the site could remember me and bring up the password manager then signing in each time would not be as bad because I can just click the login because the password manager has everything filled out.

vince3 posted Sun, 11 June 2006 at 1:31 AM

i am also having cookie problems!!! i can't seem to get them from my coffee cup to my mouth anymore, without the end falling off and sinking to the bottom of my cup!!! i hope this problem will also be resolved with the conversion!!!(heehee)

it doesn't remember me really!!! i'm having to write name and password each time!!!

StaceyG posted Mon, 12 June 2006 at 11:59 AM

Khai posted Mon, 12 June 2006 at 1:18 PM

ok sorry to report no change at all.
closed Firefox, came back and I had to sign in again. left the Name and Password fields blank, clicked Enter. got the screen about having to enter Name and Password. at this point I clicked Forums in the top menu.

I am then logged into the Site normally and able to proceed.

hewee posted Mon, 12 June 2006 at 1:36 PM

Thanks StaceyG, Just the one cookie and login is all I had to do today so that is great. :) But not getting emails on new post. I was getting them but it was only the thread I started. I have the box "Notify me when someone replies" checked too.

StaceyG posted Mon, 12 June 2006 at 2:04 PM

We are aware of the ebot problem as stated previously in the other thread but the programmers cannot get this resolved until the gallery conversion is complete.

Khai, I'll bring this up to Tim and see what is going on. I think I saw someone else using firefox have an issue too so...I don't know. I'll see what I can find out.

Khai posted Mon, 12 June 2006 at 3:32 PM

you mean this issue?

The page isn't redirecting properly Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
    *   This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.

(I cleared the cookies out and then I get this when I try and login... had to come round the houses to get here!)

StaceyG posted Mon, 12 June 2006 at 4:02 PM

So you are still having issues with login through Firefox? I asked Nicholas and he said after reading your post that it appeared you weren't really "bypassing' the login but were still logged in due to something that was an issue in our "core" but that it should be fine now if you logged out then closed firefox, deleted cookies and tried coming back in you should be fine.

However I am getting a strange error now.

Any suggestions?

tim posted Mon, 12 June 2006 at 6:20 PM Site Admin

I've tried pretty hard to reproduce the problem Khai described above with no luck.  The only way I could do it was to uncheck the "Allow sites to set cookies" in Firefox under Options|Privacy|Cookies.  After this change I got the login form each time I went to a secure part of the site.  This sounds like the situation Khai described.

Khai - can you confirm whether the "Allow sites to set cookies?" is checked in your Firefox settings?  This will need to be checked to use Firefox on Renderosity.

Thanks,
Tim

Cookies are allowed for here.. thats never changed..

I think it was a prob between the servers - somehow I had different passwords on each.. while I was logged into one, Excalibur was getting confused and denied I was logged on there.

a prob that should not rear up again once everythings integrated :)
