(Sorry in advance if you've already seen this)

I've recently posted a PDF version of this tutorial for free on Cornucopia. You can also view the web-based version if you like:

There are 3 parts to this tutorial:

Making a Tire- Part I: Text Model
Making a Tire- Part II: Textures
Mapping Notes

A most interesting part of this is the final section called "Mapping Notes." In it, I describe the way to 'FIT' texture maps on any face of an object. There are some non-intuitive settings there, which will probably help even advanced users with some quick mapping techniques.

Hope you all enjoy it.

best,
Chipp

Thanx for posting here as well friend

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

thanks Chipp - I worked thru it... very well put together... my mapping didn't work out the way yours did, if I changed the Z to 0, it was fine... is it possible this is different between V5i and V5esprit?

this will come in handy, thanks.  my next task is to create a good concrete texture for a street curb.  I will probably apply something w/ this variable transparency/underlying material thing.  any tips would be appreciated.  Also, it's got to have concrete joints every 8' on the curbs... so it will have the bump doing that as well.
