Well, it is up an running! I imagine something like the power being off and everyone overloads the circuits at the moment the power returns..
I did an upload to my gallery and am pleased overall. I really like the options presented on the upload page, including the one to include or exclude EXIF info. Somehow the image look a tad sharper than intended but that is to live with, no probs. Doing fine.
I assum ebots will be automatic with gallery comments? Do you know of any options we have to reset?
Overall, congrats to the "rosity and Bondware bunch working through this today. And Thanks!
Blessings and Peace to All. TomDart.

Also will reserve final judgment but will live with it...still wonder about ebots on gallery images since I have several comments and no ebots. I did get ebot on forum threads, like this one.

I cant upload anything at all, well it dosnt show in the gallery anyway when I do!
Even pressed the correct button!
I wonder if anyone else has had this problem.
First impressions though not great.
At least it shows your last views, that should sort out the peepers!

I thought someone said this would be the new and improved gallery....and i´m not impressed. Looks alot messier for one. Sure it will probably take some time getting used to it, just like the forum did....but i still miss the old forum-layout so i reckon i won´t ever think this new gallery is an improvement.
About seeing ones last views.....i think that´s an awful feature. I´m no "peeper", so that´s not an issue. I just don´t see how that can be of anyone´s business nor interest to see what photos i last viewed. Even now i occassionaly get IMs from people asking how come i didn´t comment on their uploads (sad i know) and from now on they can even check to see if i missed it or not.
And didn´t someone say that the number of viewings and comments would return once the conversion was done? And it hasn´t. I usually go back on certain uploads if i see they´ve gotten more comments since the last time i viewed it. That can be uploads that has an interesting rant or whatever, lol. No....i hope i get used to it...but from what i´ve seen so far...i think it sucks. It´s fast though....i´ll hand them that.

Okay...i just took another look and i gotta admit that the statistics shown on the uploads in the box on the right is a neat feature. I agree with Tom though.....it seems like all photos got over-sharpened. ....hang....okay so it´s because it gets compressed. If you zoom in on the photo it looks alot better. Just like here in the forum.
P.S And the statistics is a "bit" off too. It says the most commented photo of mine is my latest....supposedly it has 115 comments....but it has 33. And that´s not even close, lol. And i don´t like the fact that all comments doesn´t fit in one page anymore either. Ooops...now i´m gonna stop complaining i think, lol. I´m sure it´ll be great as soon as i get used to it. :tt2:

I like it! Wasn't sure what to expect, but it has good and bad points. I like that my favorite images pop up as thumbs! I don't like the number of days since posting a picture, it should just have the date. I would also like to see the number of views and comments before clicking on an image.
All in all.........I think it looks great! Good job!

What´s "Art charts"? Says it has yet to be calculated. Is that like the old "Most viewed" "Most commented" and so on?
I also like the thumbs on my favorites. That´s an improvement for sure. BUT...what happened to most of them? I can only see one page with 18 favs and i´m pretty sure i have plenty more than that added. And there´s no page i can "turn"....so i guess it only shows the last 18?

How the heck do you change the background color? I've tried, seems I'm a background idiot!
I think I like the new features with the exception of showing my "recent views". Sometimes I don't have the time or patience to comment (still on dialup here). I don't want anyone to think I thought their photo wasn't worth commenting on even though I viewed it... not the case at all... see above reason.
I'll get used to the system, there are pluses and minuses and yeah, I know, you can please some of the people all of the time, and all people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all of the time! Or, at least I think that's how it goes! :tongue2:

Yes, Donna´s right. There´s no way to please us all all the time. And i do appriciate all the effort put into this conversion. I noticed however that the photos have stopped opening up in a new window when clicking on them. Not such a problem for me who opens them up in a new tab in Firefox.
I have a question though....how do one go about getting to ones IM-archive now? I used to follow the drop down menu on the right side of the old gallery and now when it´s gone i haven´t got a clue on how to get to ´em.

I posted this in another thread, but it seems like more active 'discussion' about the new format is here...
Before the conversion,I had uploaded my 101st image...but now it says I have 100 images in my gallery...
I looked it over, but I can't see any that are missing...but maybe one is...Is that possible?(I'll check again...)
Also, will we be able to customise our background color,etc?...I'm soooo not a big fan of the white...
I also noticed that after a year we don't have the 'how many days ago' number...it just says something like 'uploaded ago'...lol.And speaking of which...who cares how many days ago it was?I'd rather know a shot was uploaded say,October 24th,than that it was 206 days ago...I think the date makes a whole lot more sense, don't you?

Very mixed experiance in a first day or so in a gallery! I have a very slow loading what ever reason. Wasn't that bad 2 days ago...anyway! The old face of R.R was much more user friendly, but with time I think we will adopt a new version. (like it or leave it)....and why we would leave it? We like it here, under one roof all the R.R .P (renderosity photographers).
They might set up a wish list one day how we would really like a gallery face and options...who knows? As Danny said, on a way small change can enhance the whole R.R

As best as I could tell by visiting other artist's profile and galleries, "Recent Views" does not show up there. I think this feature may be for personal use and not visible to others. Is this correct?
If "Revient Views" show me what I have viewed and others cannot see it, that could be helpful. If others see it...well, oops! Not a good thing.
Zacko...you could click on all sorts of stuff you really don't normally view and paint an entirely new personality.. IF Recent Views is public and not private.
Someone help! Is Recent Views private for the member only or visible to all?

I´m not worried about people watching my recent views and then paint a picture of my personality based on that. I probably open up 97 % of all uploads anyway, even now when i´m not commenting due to lack of time.
And Gert, that´s some might fine tip you gave there. I did not know that. It´s definitly a niffty feature, way to goooo! BUT it only works for me when i´m using IE. When i´m browsing the gallery with Firefox it cuts off the information and i only get the name, date posted and size. The rest of the info, like number of views and comments doesn´t seem to fit. Does anyone else experience that same problem?
The more i browse, the more i get used to it. And now, a few hours later, i aint nearly as pessimistic as i was this morning when i woke up and witnessed the change for the first time.

Donna, if it is like the forum, then you have to do it browser-wide. It can't be done in RR. Doug posted a way to do it a while back. Still looking around, not sure what to think yet. Speed-wise, things are super slow today. I had problems uploading and image, and somehow it uploaded twice. Neat trick, are we no longer limited to just one? And no eBots from the Galleries yet, still waiting on that. Ahh, progress is painful sometimes... :b_sweat: I think the recent views is just viewable by us alone, not everyone...haven't found it yet even. =]

But the thing that sucks the most is that i can´t even view my own favorites anymore. Only as many that fit in one page....sigh. So it´s only showing the last 12,18,24,36 photos you added to your favs depending on your gallery-settings. Why can´t you view the others???????? And why can´t i get the info i want from moving my cursor over a thumb using Firefox????? Only Internet Explorer can fit it all in there....sigh. Hopefully these are things that will all work out and all of our faves are not lost. Andreas, if you go to manage favorite images (from your homepage), you should get the complete list of all of your favorites. Perhaps they will make multiple pages in the future. All my favorite artists are there too, whew! And I most certainly think My Summary is the only place that one can view THEIR OWN recent viewings! Whew again, I'd hate for everyone to be exposed to my Poser depravities! :scared: As for rolling over an image and getting the info, it works for me too using Safari...have yet to try it with FireFox ...okay, just tried it. Yes Andreas, it only shows some of the info. right click, scroll down to properties and click. All the info will open up in that window, you may have to drag it wider. As far as backgrounds, it looks like you can go into My Options and edit the CSS profile to change the background colors, etc. When some HTML savy person makes a tutorial for this, please let me know! And there was no way of back-stepping either. I just ended up on the same page. So that was 3000 characters i was robbed of....and about the 30 minutes it took writing them. :crying:

No way to back-step? That is strange I feel sorry for ya buddy...I always write my comments in an email just in case something like that happens, and copy and paste it into the comments field at the end. Galleries are back up. ____________ " A man who uses a great many words to express his meaning is like a bad marksman who, instead of aiming a single stone at an object, takes up a handful and throws at it in hopes he may hit." -Samuel Johnson, lexicographer (1709-1784) ((hehehe  ))

Glad you mentioned that you've uploaded Andreas, because I see I just got an ebot for Kort but none for you,sad to say...
I have no idea what's up with that, but it's so frustrating, especially when you're like me and follow ebots a lot.In fact, that's how most people know that I've posted, and when you post as infrequently as I do....

Hmmm... I'm 100% certain it is a good idea for a site like this one to have upgraded to PHP code, but.... I'm not quite sure it was implemented in an efficient fashion? RR was never the easiest site to navigate, but it was manageable, --now it seems like one big labyrinth, which a bunch of links still pointing to the old server while some direct you to the new... From what I understand when it comes to this kind of upgrade, one usually has two entirely separate working versions of the website, first working simultaneously, and then dropping the old one for a smooth conversion to the new. Here, it seems like some sort of chaotic mish-mosh... Of course, some difficulties and issues are always to be expected... But hopefully the powers that be will reflect a little more on how to improve site navigation. Like lots of people, there are some pages I don't even know how to find anymore...
But, of course, I am here because this is the most supportive photography community that I have found on the internet thus far. It's the people that I love, --I can be patient about the code, since I know it is a work in progress (still, I feel a bit concerned for those with paid accounts!)
Anyway..that's just my two euro cents. I hope you are all happy and well!

Just noticed something in FireFox. I was browsing my gallery and viewing my uploads. When I click on you get to a small view of the image with the comments below. Now you can zoom in by clicking the image. However the popup doesn't size up to fit the image so I'm left with a scrollbar. There is enough room on my screen to scale it up though, so that can't be the problem.
When I viewed the same page in IE I couldn't zoom in, it required me to log in (obviously I'm not logged into RR in IE). What's the deal with that? The small view is just a scaled by HTML version of the image.

Please see the Announcement post in the Community Center forum titled Information on resizing images. This new info that will go into affect sometime within the next week and that should help
3DGuy posted Tue, 20 June 2006 at 6:38 PM
That thread is about resizing it into 700px and people not liking it (not that I like it, but that wasn't the point of my post).
My point was that when I click an image for larger view the popup that shows the actual size image isn't large enough. I get scollbars. It's not like that for all pictures, just a few wide ones >1000px
like my 'Glen Coe Pass' and 'Rannoch Moor' entries.
It also says nothing about having to be logged in to see the actual size images.

Yes but you will have options to control how you see them now. Are you reading the Announcement post about the options that are to come for the viewers and the uploaders?

(I would link to it for you,but the last time I 'linked' something, that person ended up logged in as me. :^/ )
Thank you. :^)

Sigh... that doesn't change the fact that the script that generated the popup is faulty.. at least in FireFox. I also haven't seen anything about having to be logged in to view the fullsize image.
Please provide a link to the post(s) where these issues are addressed.
