Hi there,
At the end of the month i want to buy a new lens for my nikon d200. I was tinking to buy the nikon af-d 50 mm. Does anyone have experience with this lens? I am going to shoot a lot at club parties this summer. Usually there isn't a lot of light in a club so thats why i was thinking to buy the nikon af-d 50 mm. Since you can set it's aperture (don't now if this is the way it's called in english) till f1.4
So my main question is will this lens fit my purpose or does anyone has some advice on buying a good lens with the main purpose of shooting at a night club. My budget is aprox 300 euro's.
Thanx in advance for any help offered.

Hello carlosnr1...
Answering your question regarding the "NKON 50mm f/1.4D AF LENS".. In fact you are right and made the right choice about the lens and the low light shots.
Now i am going to ask you back three questions if you don't mind ofcourse..
1- Why did you choose the Nikon D 50mm lens? Means how far your shots will be!
2- How much you are welling to spend on that lens which will help you do the job?
3- Can you go with alternative well known brands and qualified?
The reason i asked those questions so you can take a look at the attached links and tell me what do you think tho..
Nikon 85MM f/1.8D Lens http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/541536314.htm
Nikon 180MM f/2.8 ED IF AF Lens http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/541535928.htm
Tamron 28-200MM AF Super II http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/255111072.htm (This lens has a SUPER MACRO DISTANCE (0.49CM) and a super zoom as well tho, and you might need something like that..
All of the above mentioned lens for NIKON including the D 50MM f/1.4D lens, should be good with low light/no flash. But again i have to say.. a TRIPOD is needed and your settings on the camera it self.
I am a CANON man but I am going for the new NIKON Nikon D2X Professional Digital SLR Camera with Nkon 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S VR IF-ED Nikkor Lens and Nkon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED VR Nikkor Lens as a start..
LOL... I will give it a try.. I always hated the Nikon for some reason. But i will give it a try.
Best regards and hope to see your clubs photos soon.. I wish if i can post mine but by my policies and rules i can't :(
Have a lovely one

Thanx a lot for the links and the advice provided nattarious,
it helps me alot!
Now to answer your questions:
Usually i am willing to spend a lot of money on equipment which will do the job for me. But i just recently bought my nikon camera with lens. So i am a little tight on my budget at the moment. So iam not able to spend more then 300 euro's for a new lens.
It is no problem for me to buy a non-nikon lens. Again anything which will do the job for me.
Also in a previous thread i posted some sample party pics of mine. This is the link: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2652716
I just visited your gallery and i love your photo's!! I am very curious what your party pics look like. Is there a site where i can view them? Or can you maybe email one or two to me?

Hi Guido,
I know your budget (300 EUR), but if you can manage it - I would save up for a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18 - 200 mm f/3.5-5.6G DX ED VR lens for your Nikon D200. I'm saving up for this lens myself!
It will run you about 600 EUR, but you can sell your existing lens to recoup some of the expense.
You can learn more about this incredible lens here; http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/18200.htm
Have a fantastic day buddy, good luck on finding the perfect lens for your needs and budget!

I think you're first choice was the right one.
To operate in lowlight indoors you will need a very fast lens to get a bright viewfinder image and for focussing. You will not better the 50mm prime lens for sharpness and contrast they have a huge reputation for it, having been refined over so many years as being the standard lens for slr film cameras. I have no experience of the Nikon 50mm yet I have heard others (professionals) say it is superb which is exactly as I would expect. The crop factor on your D200 turns it into an effective focal length of 75mm which is just about ideal for portrait work.
With a slower lens, be it zoom or prime, you will find the focussing is slower just when you need it to be very fast and accurate to capture the moment in difficult lighting conditions. Go with a longer focal length and you are also limiting your dof which will make the focussing that much more critical - double whammy !
