LOL, I'm dating myself for sure!!    But I actually remember going to such places.  I loved going and being able to just park and order what you wanted and have it brought to the car by people on roller skates,  on a tray that hung on the window.

The last A&W where I live that was like that changed to a sit in restaurant with drive through about 15 or 20 years ago.
