I have created a character I want to use out of MANY of the freebies I have found... I know I cant set Poser 6 to start in the prefered state. and automaticly have her figure in the document window.. but how do I save her. in the figures area. so I can just click on a thumbnail and add her to a scene I'm working on?

Once it's in your document window, navigate to whichever folder you want to place it in and just click on the + sign.
It will ask you various questions, normally say yes to everything but best read it first!!!
Saved to library for use over and over again.
I do this with stories where the character will have the same clothes and props in lots of different renders, like my new story "Land War 2105"

Errmm.. actually you can:-))
I'm not certain, but fairly sure, that the figure (or whatever) doesn't even have to be in a figure library.
But in general, if you launch P6 and add whatever you want to the scene then hit Edit->Preferences... just clicking on the "Set Preferred State" button should do the trick (don't hit anything else in that dialogue except "OK"). It's probably best to exit & re-start Poser at that point, just to make sure.
I've just spent about 5 mins trying it out (then reverted to my usual "Empty Scene" startup - Poser loads quicker that way, and 'cos I never know what I'm going to do next when I exit Poser, that's easier for me..). But it worked...
PS: "Set Preferred State" remembers a lot more than just the document window's character - such as current render settings, Cloth-room and Mat room settings, lighting, current camera (and it's settings) .... and probably more that I now just take for granted...
Cheers,

I gotta say I start mine off with an empty scene too, which is why I save all my story based characters in the library pallet!
