Something to think about here, perhaps relevant to all of us.

Far to philosphical for me to think about though.
I have my French wine and my Italian pizza ready, and am waiting for the most watched sporting event in the world to begin. Azzurri v Les Bleus

There there Valerie. It´s just a football-game after all. Every player earns millions each year, i for one don´t feel sorry for a single one of them.
I´m sorry for participating in taking this thread off-track Richard, i shall be gone now.

Comments on images is a tough subject...
On one hand you don't want to just leave the typical:
OMG or "V"
However, you don't want to be mean about it either..
I try to offset any critism with a comment first...I also try to phrase things as a suggestion..
"Perhaps you could"
or
"maybe try"
Recently I left a comment on a members image very much like I suggested. I gave a positive comment, and added a sugestion..
The member deleted the image and uploaded it again, NOT allowing comments..
I felt like a total jerk.
Zacko posted Mon, 10 July 2006 at 10:27 PM
That has happened to me as well....more than once actually. And a few of those times i also got an IM from that person saying he/she deleted it. Really rubbing it in. What´s up with that? We should just face that critique aren´t something that everyone can deal with...nor deliver. I remember one person asking for critique...really asking for it...and that person got some helpful advice. Nothing rude or anything, like i´ve seen in the galleries lately....and still it resulted in that person deleting their entire gallery and left. For me comments mean that someone took the time out of their busy lives to write me a line or two, and for that i am truly grateful for....regardless if it´s gonna help me improve my photography or not. A simple "Hi Andreas" that i got once just cracked me up and therefor also meant just as much as any constructive critizism would have.

Renderosity has now addressed this problem IMO with the optional types of comment request. If a member has made a mistake when uploading by allowing critical and non critical comments it is their mistake and no one giving the comment should feel bad for following that request.
However I understand fully because in my experience: help, advice or critique is not always well received even when someone has specifically asked for it in the description of their image.
Since joining Renderosity I have only ever seen one comment that was specifically directed at causing upset to the person posting the image. It was not on an image of mine but I still felt obliged to report the comment as abusive to the staff and it was removed, hopefully before the person posting the image saw it. At all other times what I have seen is people doing their best to help and support people posting images. I do not always agree with the critique or advice given but that is what it is all about - a world full of different views and opinions and each persons view is as valuable as the next.
From me personally a big thank you to everyone who gives their time to share their experience and expertise. I may not always agree with you, but I value your contribution immensely.

I always politefully thank people for their comments and/or suggestions...but in all honesty,I rarely get any critique...However,one time I was quite 'iffy' about my upload and stated so in my notes....It was then that I got real critique. And it was most valuable,as well...I think it's not enough to have something you click on,saying you welcome suggestions/critique...because we all know there are those who 'say' this but don't really mean it. :(
As a result,my own personal approach is to only offer suggestions if the poster out and out asks for it.
Case in point...Danob,(Danny) had a photo he was working on for a campaign,(as I understood it).He was unhappy with it and asked for help. And for the first time,in a long time,I saw people actually critiquing the image and offering solutions.I found it fascinating and even more,I learned from it.
I guess all I'm saying is that I don't trust check boxes saying someone wants critique...I need to hear it from them as well.
PS I hope you don't mind my mentioning you,Danny...

Hi guys/girls!
Thanks for a link. Those guys really made some harsh ciritques, some I find insulting as well ( like model too old ...) A main problem they use worlds so freely not to think its might hurt a photographer.
When I started to upload here, I thought I will have some critiques and I can learn from them. Members got a very good manner, if my pictures are not hitting some sort of standard, they just not leave coment at all, instead of give me some feedback. In other hand, in a forum if I ask for advice I got it. I think I have to make a first move ( ask critique ) and members will reply with ideas or advise.
