Now let's see them fix the problem with downloads continuously choking regardless of browser. BTW guys, this would be less annoying if your server supported resuming downloads at the breakpoint.

Seems not a whole lot of changes since the last release, and a long time between releases.
Still, it's good to see them working on poser again. Haven;t heard a peep from them about P7 or updates in like 9 months!

I haven't experienced any of the problems listed as fixes in this release. I use a wacom tablet and haven't any troubles either. I don't use the cloth room at all as a matter of fact if the cloth room and face room where ripped out of P6 that would suit me just fine.
I too hope that this SR3 release does not cause troubles down the line and as far as P7? I haven't heard a thing myself.

After setting up your scene, delete the BG pic, save and exit Poser. Reopen and go directly to Render Dimensions. Set the dimensions, THEN load the fullsize BG. Render. It works.

Conclusion: I ended up DLing the update at work (where thanks be, my browser already cached the serial number from the last time I got something off the site). Seriously, if a download chokes, it chokes, but resuming it should be possible. Also, if it's a patch rather than the full application, what's the point of putting it behind a serial authentication? Offhand I can't think of any other apps (big company or small) which require this, unless TPTB at e frontier are trying to track the number of licensed P6 users who still use the application.

Siggraph? Now it makes sense. I bet that might have had something to do with the patch release weather or not they have a P7 ready to show. It would be good for them to have all the different rooms in P6 stable by the time of Siggraph. I've used the rooms but for what I do I really don't get much use out of them. My goodness such a wee firestorm. I know more people have installed SR3 so since there are really no one posting any results but a few I guess it's not that big an update to be effective. Many on the other forums I visit have said they see no change or have not experienced the problems addressed in the update. Oh well hopfully we shall hear more. I like this, really! :sneaky: Maybe it's a sign that people at least have some hope in the 3D-industries but, well, you know...
It will take some time before people have tried out everything. What I found now is that the thing I liked the most in the fixes has not been fixed for me, the tablet support (or I'm doing something wrong...). I was so happy that the issue that the camera spins around like being handled by the tasmanian devil when I touched the control with the pen has been fixed. Now, I found that it stills spins and behaves insane ( but maybe a bit faster now  just kidding)

To me, the Cloth and Hair Rooms are good attempts, but too much fiddling and too slow. They keep trying to cram features into an archaic, usually unstable application that are too much. You want to see Cloth and Hair at work, try Cinema 4D's Clothilde and Hair module. After using these, Poser's aren't worth even clicking on the tab. Sorry, I've been spoiled by superior design and speed.

I never before participated in one of those "what's best" threads and I still won't because I acknowledge in the point that there are many tools that are much more stable and fast.
The major question for me is what I want to do and end up with. And as I'm all into skin and a special kind of light C4D and others don't fullfill my needs, everything I tried gave me skin that was not real enough for my taste. But when it comes to big scenes with a lot of envorinment and such there are far better apps than Poser. The only thing that makes me hesitate: I don't use much interior, landscapes and such, most of the time I prefer the puristic style.

Miss Nancy posted Fri, 14 July 2006 at 1:41 PM
oops! I keep forgetting that the only two buyers for poser are no longer in the market, hence e-frontier won't be able to sell it. that's a break with tradition, which normally calls for each new version to be put out by a new company. it may bode well for poser users, as the same coders who are familiar with P6 problems (if any) will be well-equipped to write the next version.

I've installed SR3, and to me it seems like it's rendering slightly faster... I had been working on for days on THIS PIC, rendering and rendering it again (since it contains a mirror) and well, I installed SR3 as soon as I'd got it downloaded, and well.. it seemed like it was faster. Just a smidgeon, but at least I havne't discovered any weird behaviour yet.
I gotta try that material collection thing though... That better work, I'm using it a lot...

Slightly faster? Moe stable? Here too - well, at least "maybe", every image is different and you can often not tell exactly why you get errors! I've started to render a full figure with every single face_off-shader I have, 2000x1200, 300 dpi before I went to bed and ws surprised that it was finished without errors or lockups when I got up again to get me some milk - one hour later! One render makes no regularity at all but as I'm used to render everything in areas it makes a very nice exception :wink"

The FireFly Render Engine section of the pop up notes on the download page talks about optimized data structures for more efficient memory use in high polygon count scenes (Mac OS X only)
I'm wondering if this mean Mac users had troubles PC users didn't or did a universal problem got fixed only in the Mac version?

It doesn't work though. I've already seen links to SR3. Generally speaking, measures such as these are inconveniences which only buyers have to put up with, since warez users have it all taken care of for them.

Okay I've had the patch installed for a day and these are the improvements I saw on my machine. Bare in mind my machine is 3 years old now but all my drivers are up to date. I run an AMD ath. XP 1.4Hz processor with a gig and a half of 333 ddr memory. Anyway here is what I've noticed:
Smoother movment when using my wacom tablet. When I use the stylus the camera controls and figures don't go insane.
Area renders are much quicker.
Working with dynamic figures within the cloth room is really fast. Before the updated patch it would take forever for a simple cloth sim. Now it takes off like a rocket. My last cloth some was on Jessie and it took less than 30 secs.
I note a small change in speed when doing a final render using firefly.
And now that the BG mystery has been solved I am very happy with the patch thus far. I also use pov-ray to do final renders but I have yet to import a poser scene into that to see if there is any effect from SR3. I doubt there will be.
