Hi all,

I am new to Vue 5 (and this forum) well new to any rendering software package, I am using it with Sketchup. I was wondering if there is a beginners guide to using this software? I see some of the work people have posted and I have no idea how they get it like that and I keep trying different things and still no wear near the results I would like.  I am sure it is simple but only if you know how.

Any help would be much appreciated.

what kind of results are you trying to achieve?

Well now that is the question.   I did a simple design in Sketchup and then exported it to Vue 5 and I wanted to put some texture onto it.  In the example I attched I used all the materials from Sketchup and rendered it in Vue 5 but it just doesn't look any good.

I think someone with more experiance could do so much better.  Just so you are aware I am a beginer and only started using this software for a day or two so I don't produce anything exciting.

Try using materials available in Vue5 itself

What kind of lighting / shadows etc are you trying to get?

Describe your desired final result

Also if you have the purchased version, you could try using one of the example files done by the pros, and delete their objects, and add yours in - Ive done that with satisfactory results

There's always the BackRoom that you can access from the header of this forum where there are a plethora of tutes on doing stuff in Vue of all numbers as well.....

 

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound

Hi sauk99, welcome to the Vue forum! Don't be discouraged, none of us learned Vue 5 Infinite in 2 or 3 days! I've been using it since it came out early last year and I'm still getting to grips with it!

Definitely check out the backroom here for lots of tutorials and helpful information, as well as the tutorials at e-on software. E-on also sells some great training resources here. And as Lord Wexford mentioned, Cornucopia3D has a forum dedicated to Vue beginners, as well as Classroom and Resource areas to help get you going.

Hi sauk99,

Looking at your image, there are a couple of things I notice right off. First, based upon your shadow, the light source is behind the table, so the side facing the viewer is in shade-- that's why it's so dark. Try moving your lightsource direction so that it's coming from the camera side.

Note, if your main light (sun) is set to 'point at camera' then dragging it around the camera is the best way to change it's direction. If not, then rotating it should do.

You also may try using one of the preset Global Illumination (GI) atmospheres. I like "Copenhagen GI" (used in the above pic) in the Realistic Sunset category. If you choose it, you'll need to move the sun around so your object isn't in shadow.

Thanks to everyone that has replied and tried to help, I really appreciate your help and comments. I will try answers everyone's questions in here but if I forget you out it's not that I haven't read your comments or anything.

Grayhem I tried using the materials in Vue but it didn't work out to well for me, I don't know how to add a texture to one particular part of the sketch, when I do it it changes the whole lot and just doesn't look that god or professional. One thing I have learnt is if you import in using xxx.obj then you can select individual components. One problem I am having when I do that is I can not get close enough to the object to see what I am doing, not like in Sketchup where you can zoom in and out easily. I will keep trying and hopefully it will come clear.

chippwalters thanks for the advice, I did notice mine looked so much darker compared to yours (the table that is! ;-) ), I tried moving the sun (I think) but can never get it in the right place. With the texture on your table did you use the ones that come with Vue or the program you designed it in?

Thanks all for your help, I am off to check out those links and try moving the sun around to see better results. If I get better results I will post it again.
