It will be reveiled at Siggraph '06 (1-3 Aug.) - am I right? :-)
AgentSmith posted Sun, 30 July 2006 at 5:27 PM
Yes, sometime at the start of the Siggraph floor exhibition, which is August 1st-3rd.
And, even that info is not official, so yeah, I wouldn't go holding any breath, but...Siggraph is where all the companies announce their new version info's, so I wouldn't see why DAZ would be any different.
But no worries, Bryce 6 is approaching. I can see the event horizon now, lol.

Yeah it better not be a suck black hole! I am actually considering either Vue or Carrara if there does not appear to be an upgrade to Bryce by this fall. Which would be sad cause I have using Bryce for pretty close to 10 years now!
PJF posted Sun, 30 July 2006 at 5:58 PM
One interesting little snippet I picked up on whilst researching my amusing exchange with AgentSmith over at DAZ, was that the Corel team were reportedly well along into developing Bryce6 before they were suddenly no longer developing Bryce at all. (can't find the bleedin link now, mutter, mutter...)
Assuming that incomplete work was passed onto DAZ, maybe there will be quite a lot of new stuff in Bryce6 after all. Or maybe it wasn't passed on and Bryce6 will be a few new goodies on top of the profound code rewrite by DAZ. Or maybe it was passed on but DAZ couldn't use it because of the code revision. Or maybe DAZ have pulled the wool over everyone's eyes and Bryce6 is has loads of new stuff by them as well as the code work.
Speculation is fun. We only have a couple more days of it (plus the OT and bickering), and then the forum will be awash with discussion of actual Bryce information.
Will it be yay, hey, hey; or doom 'n gloom? Let's speculate!

I already went with Carrara (and might even buy the Pro version before I go to bed). But that doesn't mean I'll be dropping Bryce. Bryce5 is still just as good as when I bought it, and still extremely useful as a tool I know well. I shall be a Brycer for a long time to come.
If Bryce6 is:
then I shall consider getting it. But I'll probably wait until DAZ takes its interminable time to fix the bugs, by which time it will be available on some discount or other.
Unless it's utterly frelling amazing, of course, in which case I'll be fighting you lot to the checkout. :-D
AgentSmith posted Sun, 30 July 2006 at 6:48 PM

Yeah, it looks as if DAZ will be able to pull of what they said; "Bryce 6 in 2006". Which means anytime before Dec. 31st, lol.
Speculation is fun
Speculation gives me grey hair!
Like PJF lays it out, is how I think it may go for many...meaning, users are going to be more cautious this time around for a Bryce upgrade. They will watch, wait...watch some more...play with their cheaply purchased Carrara....watch some more, lol.

LOL, Vile. I guess ur right. I just haven't matured enough to appreciate drugs, sex, and violence for the masses. TV is probably on in my household 4-5hr per week now, but while my family's viewing habits were being monitored I made it a point at having TV on in evening and not on the stupid stuff. If there was nothing worthwhile on the networks, I,d put a movie in the DVD or let my kids go at the video games. That was logged also. I felt I'd get my vote in against the other stuff because the tv was on but not viewing the programs. (didn't work apparently)
Now, back to our program. Bryce 6.... today....fingers crossed.

The point, to me at least, is if you have successfully updated a program with even ONE (1) new feature, you should brag your A$$ off about it to your customers, even if it will be MONTHS until it reaches them, as it encourages them to think of the program in a more positive light. Other companies do this, and it WORKS for THEM.
Why does Daz refuse to do this? What would they lose if they did?

Attached Link: e-on's August 2nd Press Release
I will always love my Bryce, but have been very closely watching for the unveiling of Vue 6 Infinite. As attlleus mentioned above, I've been drooling ever since. If you can afford to do so, having both of these appy's in your 3D tools arsenal might not be a bad thing. Yesterday's e-on press release announced how V5I was used by ILM in creating some of the scenes for Pirates of the Caribbean & looked very impressive:http://www.e-onsoftware.com/about/press_materials/?page=..%2FPRIndex&date=August%201,%202006
Today's press announcement finally unveiled just what V6I has in store for you as reported by RO's Vue mod, agiel, direct from e-on's SIGGRAPH booth:
Here are some of the new features that will be available in Vue 6*:
EcoSystems Generation II with interactive real-time EcoSystem painting and layered EcoSystem materials
Spectral atmosphere engine with Spectral clouds and MetaCloud technologies
Flicker-free SolidGrowth 4 plant technology
Ventilators for local wind effects
An entirely re-written radiosity engine for fast indoor and outdoor realistic lighting
New animation graph editor for precise control over keyframes and time curves
Absorption and multiple internal scattering (Sub-Surface Scattering)
Large Amplitude displacement mapping
Volumetric shaders and HyperTextures
Motion Tracking import from Boujou or MatchMover
Multi-shape area Lights (convert any object into a light emitter)
Re-posing of Poser characters directly inside Vue
A detailed description of the new features can be found at:
http://www.e-onsoftware.com/vue6
If you follow the attached Aug. 2nd press release link, you can watch a QT movie showing the latest features from V6I.
FYI - for those of you (like me) who purchased Vue 4 esprit way back when they offered it for $99 to registered Bryce users, you can side grade to V5I for $479 which currently sells for $579. If you purchase V5I by tomorrow, Aug. 3rd, then when V6I is available, you will be able to upgrade for FREE. The current listed price for V6I is Nodelocked License: $695 and for a Floating License: $795. So sidegrading to V5I now (if you afford to do so) wouldn't be a bad deal. I know many of you are going the Carrera route - I don't blame you. It also looks to be an amazing proggy that undeniably will grow and continue to get better & better. I mention this as info to those looking into all possible options. Whatever floats your boat best - then go for it!
Wouldn't it be amazing if this unveiling sparked the technicians working on Bryce to even better heights? I feel they both have their strong points and watching at least one appy take advantage of 64 bit integration is indeed very exciting!
I dare you, while there is still time, to have a magnificent obsession. --William Danforth
attileus posted Wed, 02 August 2006 at 11:04 AM
One of the most brilliant solution in Vue 6 is that you can "paint in" your 3D models (trees, grass, rocks object s on the desired area with different density) and having displacement mapping; it adds miracles to your objects; hope the B6 team is up to the challenge! :-)
ariannah posted Wed, 02 August 2006 at 11:17 AM
That does indeed sound highly intriguing. Wish I could get my paws on it now but as it is, I'll have so much to learn in just getting a handle on an appy new to me, my head's going to be spinning.
Does anyone know what is meant by a "nodelocked" & "floating" license? These terms are new to me. I'm guessing nodelocked means an install on only one computer, where a "floating" one allows you to install on a set number ie: 2 computers?

PJF posted Wed, 02 August 2006 at 4:29 PM
There were two important aspects of Carrara that made me choose it over Vue, despite the latter having a clear lead in the area of natural vegetation and giving the impression of a more secure future.
Carrara is a more all-round 3D app than Vue, and Carrara is much more stable than Vue.
Even amongst its fans Vue is regarded as buggy and unreliable. And most worrisome of all - it has always been thus regarded. The bugs of Vue5 Infinite will not be fixed until Vue6, and they'll most likely be replaced by Vue6's own bugs which won't get fixed until Vue7. Sod that.
When DAZ bought Carrara, I was nearly put off. I find DAZ very unconvincing as software developers (so far), which is why I "gave up on" Bryce. But DAZ kept the Carrara team and kept them out of the DAZ building (and hopefully, out of the worst aspects of the culture). The user-base-building promotional offers were the clincher.
