Yeah, quite anxious to know myself. Maybe they are doing a big unveilving at 3pm their time or something?
I am expecting we will actually get the software 4th October or thereafter, especially as their special upgrade offer runs out on the 3rd AND they have said they will be shipping it in Q3 which at least means we are in the right quarter :)
Cheers

Actually, there are 2 press releases. One was released today about how Vue was used for about 60 shots on the savages island in Pirates of the Carribeans. See the link for more details. The other one is for tomorrow. It will be able the official unveiling of Vue 6 features. Since they have been showing them already during demos, I got the green light to give you a sneak peek. Vue 6 will feature : - a new spectral atmosphere model, with real volumetric could and accurate light decay - displacement mapping, translucency and sub surface scattering for materials - hypertextures (real 3d textures) - ecosystem 2, with the ability to place individual instances or paint them in layers - layered materials - an improved animation interface - and local 'fans' to blow wind on local area of a scene just to name a few that come to mind. More details at e-on's site tomorrow.Jonj1611 posted Tue, 01 August 2006 at 2:30 PM
Damn that is so cool, I have wanted to be able to place/move individual instances for soooo long.
Can't wait. Hopefully they wont keep us hanging around to get our hands on it :)
Erm, while you are, will Vue 6 still include network rendering and 5 rendercows?
Cheers

YAYY!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as I can tell, Vue 6 Infinite and Vue Xtream are scheduled to come out this fall. Vue 6 will come out later. I haven't heard about network rendering or number of cows, so you will have to wait for the announcement for that. The days of having only alpha planes to create dramatic skies are counted :)

I can't wait to lay my hands on 6.
I just imagine what I can do with my trees and translucency and the Gen2 of ecosystems!

Can I just say I'm really, really, really, really, really excited about Vue 6 and all the nay sayers on some other forums are actually making me more excited because I'm contrary that way. I wish I was at Siggraph tomorrow and not in a computer lab talking about Web 2.0 stuff - its so yesterday ;-)

Ditto, Mark. Ghu knows I'd rather be there than slinging groceries tomorrow. And oh yeah, translucency and SSS...proper skin shaders, here we come! Non global wind effects...that has potential (like say parent the 'fan' to a hovercraft, and have the foliage go crazy whenever it passes over...). The new atmosphere system is yumnmy already. So far as the Cows go, my only concern is that the puppies work on Win2k. I do -not- want to have to spring for XP liscences for the rendergarden. Hm. And whether or not you have to use 64 bit Cows with a 64 bit version of V6I (hey, I can dream....) As for nay sayers....a good hay ration should clear that right up... :P

Holy smokes!
Just read the press release - had no idea they did that with Vue - leave it to the people at ILM to have it for a week and become masters at it!
And with volumetric clouds, displacement mapping, hypertextures, layered materials - Eco2 sounds incredible - just what I'd love to be able to do!
The local "fans" are a genius thought -- oops! Need a towel to wipe the drool off the floor - 'scuse me!

Hmmm- they will be releasing the 64 bit version this Fall?...

Damn those features look amazing!!!
On top of the existing RenderCow™ network rendering system, Vue 6 Infinite offers a new type of optional standalone render node, the RenderBull™.
The RenderBull is a command-line renderer designed to become part of larger renderfarm management tools such as BackBurner.
Enjoy :)

EcoSystems Generation II are worth it alone for the type of work I do!
This does look like a significant upgrade, and worth the upgrade cost!
