I've always made my own so far as in the good old days but on my last image I stuffed it somehow and the auto-thumb was placed there instead. I couldn't be bothered to fix it at the time
...and my views and comments have shot up dramatically!!! (yeah... I pimp for views and comments...)
so anyway, it's got my vote!
cheers
Sean

Maybe people prefer to see the whole image in reduced form sometimes.
However, I think that it will work against most people. Many might just glance at the full image on the thumbnail and move on.

On the upload page, you have a choice of uploading your own thumbnails, or you can leave that space blank and one will be auto generated for your image.

I normally post full image thumbs anyways, so now I don't have to bother trying to shirnk it down to 15k. I notice that auto thumbs don't always stick to that limit. So unless you have good reason to not show a thumb of the whole image (nudity for eg) then I say let rosity do the work. It is what we pay them for after all. Oh wait....

I just uploaded an image and used the auto feature. It did a better job than i do. :) I just may use that option more often.

I normally don't use the whole image as a thumbnail for any of several reasons. For starters, I may not want to give away the whole scene. If you've posted the whole thing in mini form, that leaves little reason to click to view the whole thing for many people, or perhaps the subject of the image is unclear in such reduced form. Next there is the issue that I often like to try to put something that draws the eye or something unique to the image in my thumbnails. Finally, there are the times when I want the thumbnail to highlight the detail in some portion of the image if I feel that's an especially important point.
I am, however, quite against the practice that some people use of deliberately misleading thumbnails. I really hate those >.<.

i recently converted my whole gallery to use the auto-thumbs, and since i uploaded my anniversity image(about a week ago), my older images have had about 1000 hits, i've used my thumbs on my last three piccies, but they haven't had that much interest(despite my last image being the greatest render ever made!!anywhere ever!!!),so i might always from now on, use the auto-thumb feature.
now if i can fit my head, out of this thread, ill leave now!!
