Hello all,

This is my 1st post here. I have been reading with interest over the last few weeks the lengths people having been going to, to get more out of P6 with regards to memeory management/allocations etc.

I have been considering buying shade 8.5 as this package suppossedly allows good intergration with poser content and importing of PZ3's and as I have 64bit system and operating system I should be able to take advantage of shade being able to use 4gb of system memory.

However I am curious as to why other P6 users haven't taken this route. Is there something wrong with shade etc. Any advice would be much appreciated. Also does anybody know if shade allows multi-threading as I have an AMD FX60 dual core proccessor and would like a package that could take advantage of both cores.

Many Thanks,

NM.

Yes Shade allows for multithreading rendering.

As for Shade working on a 64bit system, I can't say since I'm still on XP :)

Shade does a nice job with most Poser content.  There are occasionally an item or two that it seems to have issues with, but that is not the norm at all.

It is my impression that many people are intimidated by the minimalist nature of the interface that is almost the polar opposite of Poser.

many are likely apprehensive about learning new lighting, camera and material settings.

I have it, use it with p6 and I like it. It has it good points such as curves in modeling, great lighting such as hdri lighting, very crisp rendering.

I found it easy for me but I would advise you to try the demo first. It may not be to your liking. There are a couple of other alternatives depending on what your looking for. Vue and Carrara5. They import poser files very well too. They give you terrains for your images with great lighting and rendering but not the modeling capability as Shade does but shade doesn't have the terrains like the other 2. Carrara does have some modeling capability.

Like I said, it's best to try a bunch of demos before you spend any money and see what works well for you.

Just my opinion. Wish some told me that before I had bought some things.

I have both Shade and Carrara, and before Eovia sold out to another company, I was using Carrara exclusively for all Poser production renders. On the strength of the product and support, I even made the mistake of purchasing Hexagon. (And had the good fortune to get most of my investment back.) Carrara works great with Poser, with or without the TransPoser add-on (included free in the Pro version), but I will be switching to Shade as soon as I can afford the 8.5 upgrade.

There's is more to consider than how well the program works today. It's a safe bet that C6P will be just another piece of promise-laden junkware. Shade is slowly integrating Poser, and by Shade 9.0, I expect interoperability equal to Carrara's. And I expect a round of dirty tricks in Carrara updates, now that it is owned by people who imagine themselves Poser's competition.

Thank you everyone for your advice. you have been very heplful.

I think I shall download shade standard and take it for a spin. The price deal for P6 owners is just too good an opportunity to pass up. i'll let you know how I get on. No doubt 'HELP ME' questions will follow. heehee

I intend to get Vue as well but shall wait for the much anticipated V6i.

Again Many thanks,

NM.
