I am using Photoshop 7. What I want to do but have not had any luck at all is to only use one part of a picture and then use the alpha channel in Vue so there wouldn`t be any background or no white grayish background. I open and bring in the pic. then I use the lasso to outline the part of the photo I want, then copy then paste. Now I have the 2 layers under layers the origianl pic. and the area I wanted with the white-gray checkboard which should be transparent. I trash the original and the cutoff appears. I save as a bmp which Vue will import. I use the alpha channel but the background is white grayish. How can I accomplish no background?
Thanks,
Dave

if vue exports with the alpha channel intact when you open ps, use the alpha information as a selection... ( urm ctrl clicking it, i think ) keep the selection active in rgb mode and duplucate the layer while u have it selected, ( you can hide the background to see the transparent effect)
if i you made your own selection, just keep it active and make a new channel, select the channel - use black/white foreground background colours - hit delete - you should have an alpha channel made from a selection (just invert it if the forground backround is topsey turvey)
hope some one can explain it better , or some of this made sense.

Double-Click the Material Editor, then click the Basic Material Editor up top of the dialog box (I'm sure you know that part - but just to make sure...) check the box to use an image, find your color image, then check the box to use and alpha image, then find and open the B&W one and viola!
Hope that helps - good luck!

2 images are needed. What I did and which worked very well was to remove the background and then save as then to mask only the portion that I needed and then save as. Then go to Objects in Vue then Create then alpha plane load image into color and then load the mask image into the alpha.
