Subject: Poser or Python

Is it possible to make a material file that will only add to the material that is already loaded on an object/figure?  For example, let's say I have a ball in a scene, and I already have a material loaded onto it, and I want to add a specially designed sub surface scattering to it, without removing the material that is already there.

Could that be done with a materials or pose file, or is that going to have to be a python script?

A material file can't do it reliably (or even at all) as far as I know. I think you need Shader Spider. The link is to the PC version, but there's one for the Mac as well. I don't have it myself, but I hear good things about it, and the description matches what you want to do...

You should be able to do a mat file , but you would have to cut out all the code except the parameter you want to change. The standard mat file would contain all the settings for the materials .

A python script might be easier.

I don't know if this will help, but it's worth knowing if you don't.

Thanks for all the replies.  :)

Does anyone know of some good python script tutorials?
