Shorts International, Apple's provider of independent short films on iTunes, has handpicked The Mantis Parable to participate in the launch of a new section on iTunes delivering award-winning independent animated shorts.
In addition to The Mantis Parable, this shortlist of award-winning animated shorts available for viewing includes John Canemaker's Academy Award winner The Moon and the Son, academy nominee and 2005 Annecy favorite The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello, and legendary animator Bill Plympton's The Fan and the Flower.

Having screened in more than 50 festivals worldwide and winning over a dozen top festival awards - including twice qualifying for Oscar nomination consideration, this eight-minute animated short-film described by film-critic Michael Medved as "artful and engaging...a skillful, thought-provoking, densely packed work with world class animation", has captivated audiences around the world with its stunning beauty and heartfelt message that resonates with children and adults alike. Animation World Magazine calls it "luminous...a visual stunner, a you-are-there tour of the inside of a household world we're all too big to ever visit" and Dr. Ted Baehr, Founder/Publisher of MOVIEGUIDE, gives the film his "highest commendation" declaring that "The Mantis Parable equals the best work that Pixar has ever done. Superb filmmaking. Subtle, transformative, and animated with an incredible attention to detail. It is excellent."

o.k., tried it in a different browser. it opens itunes and I get a message; "itunes 6.x and quicktime 7.x required" unfortunately I only have those installed on another computer :crying:

But you have to install itunes before that :p
If it's a free download, why don't you use youtube? If it's not free, then forget what I said :p
BTW how come I can't find any "production photos" on the website?

The Mantis Parable is one of a select few that are part of the first ever launch of independent animated shorts on iTunes, each of which cost $1.99 to view. The quality is far superior to youtube. :)
As far as production photos go, unfortunately they are scattered around the website, generally in the Making Of sections or the Production Journal section. However, I can provide you with links to a few publications that have posted images you might enjoy. The film has been featured in countless magazines, including gracing the cover of Computer Graphics World 2 months ago.
Here are some other feature articles regarding the film you might enjoy!

I should also mention that The Mantis Parable Special Edition DVD will be available in about a week from www.themantisparable.com.
Enjoy! :)
