Its out! (well kinda). An 8GB SecureDigital (SD) flash memory card. http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/31/pretec-releases-first-8gb-sdhc-card/ It looks like SD is catching up to CF. Watch ya guys think? p.s. CF is @ 12GB.

Leaving CF behind in its wake I would say !

SD is the most popular type of memory card in use. Planned capacity to 32Gb in the near future.

Just confirms what I've been hearing....CF may be in it's last gasps....

Actually CF cards are already becoming harder to find in my neck of the woods....

You will also note that some of the newer DSLR's have switched to SD already....do you think they are trying to tell us something????

Just note that Pretec also has a 12GB CF card available. (see link above) CF is still faster hitting 40MBs with the Sandisk Extreme IV.

I think thats a trend smaller cards.. I  still contend that such high capacity  cards hold dangers  if your card goes down for some reason if you make a living from photography it is too risky.. Speed is one issue where the CF card rules and a lot of the new cameras have dual slots

Agree with Danny on card size dangers.  I need a 1GB on the D200 to get a decent number of raw but to go to a card 5, 10 or more times the capacity would likely not be my choice. Sure, it depends on equipment needs and file sizes...still, I feel more "secure" with several cards than with one huge one with everything on it.

Still, amazing the capacity of such small boxes...we will likely see more a coming.      Tom.

I know the 1D Mk ii etc has duel slots..CF and SD :)..dunno about other makes!
