could you make a note of the precise error message and post it?

Then I point it to the Runtime I have on another hard drive, and the message appears again?
I've been launching poser to that drive for months, without any major change in size, recently? It's large, about 40GBs, but there's still about 40GBs left on the disk, and there are'nt a million things in any one folder?
I had'nt changed the the Edit > Preferences to Launch to Preferred State, so I expected it to run after it crashed after re-install, but it wo'nt. This message comes up again!
This sytem has 750MBs RAM, 1GB Virtual Memory, and..well, 1 GB left on the C: Drive. I'm going to try to increase the Virtual memory to 5.25GBs(750MBs + 2GBs for Windows, 2GBs for Poser, and then if I want to open Photoshop...)

I think it's when one of the libraries contain an illegal character (like a ~ or something)
Check the runtime on the other drive for any weirdness, probably something you've added lately :)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

The 1 GB left on the C drive is the problem. Windows uses unused space on the C drive for the virtual memory, so you are probably running out. Try moving everything you can to another drive. One of the problems with Windows is that no matter where you install software, there will be a footprint left on the C drive, so it will fill up even if you don't install to it.

Hm..I added a "! PZZs" folder to my runtime, but this was the few days ago? I've launched Poser a few times since then. Could it have been that long ago?
Would renaming the folder be enough, or am I still looking at another re-install?

I'd agree with AnAardvark on this. You definitely have to clean up the C drive. Can I assume that your main operating system is on that drive? and can i also assume that you are running a normal PC with Windows XP on? If so, you definitely need more than 2GB free space on the master hard drive, purely for operational reasons... Clean up the TEMP folder and TEMP internet files... and make cds or DVDs of your work so you can delete it from the hard drive.
also check disk integrity and DEFRAGMENT the hard drive (best to leave pc on overnight to have task completed (not sure it will let you defragment as you only have 1 GB left. but you can try)

You're both probably right, but just changing that one folders name has kept me running since!
The problem is I partitioned the XP drive to 4GB, knowing; I would'nt be installing any programs there, I would'nt be keeping any files there, and would be assigning a large amount a virtual memory elsewhere also. What I did'nt know was that the Temp files are swapped out of Virtual Memory on the C: drive. I doubt that should be, but such is the case.
What's really lousy is that I only have 3 folders on my C: drive, all windows directories. When they're all selected a right click of the properties says they take up 2.5GBs, but right clicking the C: drive says I've used 3.25 GBs!?
I checked the Local Setting TEMP, as well as the Windows Temp. I dissabled System Restore, and the Recycle Bin. I've heard there are other Temp files also, like %...something ...% that windows uses all the time, if anyone knwos please chime in.
I was hot onto the trail of a 500MB set of 4 Hidden folders, in my System32 folder, but then I got Poser up and went back to work..
SInce I started formating my OS drive as such I've gotten used to installing more than one HDD. Next time I formatt this drive I'll know better than to use a partition.

generally speaking, if you want a Win XP OS only partition, it should be over 8 GB. That will leave it plenty of space for TEMP files, other Windows stuff (background services that have to run in order for the pc to operate efficiently and take up loads of memory for some reason). The Operating System files & folders take up more space than what you see. Also bear in mind that any temporary files created for renders and projects for Poser are stored in the base directory of none other than C:/ drive... The other temporary files folder you are looking for is the USER one.
so it would be C:Documents and SettingsUSER NAMELocal Settings (mind you will have to select the show hidden files and folders option and uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System files option as well in your Windows Explorer Folder Options menu).
And don't delete hidden files located in system32 folder!!!! You may end up with a pc that won't boot!!
Glad you managed to sort it out by renaming :D
