Subject: Looking for curled hair

I'm looking for curled hair, with the following characteristics:

I've been looking at Sharmane Hair, but it has the same issue I find with Frizzled and SpiralCurls, in that the top of the head is obviously styled to give a bigger hair look. This is also very "feminine" and doesn't work for what I need it. Something like Neftis' AngelCurlz might work if all locks had the same lenght and there wasn't a fringe. Or April's SpiralCurls, if the curling didn't start at the root and had a somewhat flatter appearance. I've looked at Amante Hair, but again, it's too big at the top, and merely wavy at the bottom.

Something like Adorana's free Calcaria Hair might do it, if I could transfer it to Hiro and make it longer. And ideally, if I could also give it a middle parting instead of a side one, but I can leave with that.

Any ideas of a hair that would work? I know the requirements are a tad hefty, but I also know what I need and what will not do. I've gone through DAZ's, RDNA's and I'm going through here too, but any further input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you looked at "Estio curls" at DAZ?

Yes, I've got it. It's way too short and doesn't really have a curl to it, it's just wavy. I've tried the lenghten morph and I end with a wavy mullet :(

Not full on curly but it certainly morphs to a hard waved effect, sorta like a perm that is about 3 months old and you've been brushing not combing.  Fits a heck of a lot of characters and under $10.  What?  Future Hair by 3Dream - might not fit this particular bill but still a good addition to your hair arsenal, in my ever so humble opinion.

Thanks Valerian. I've considered purchasing Future Hair, but not at the moment.

The problem that I have is that this is for a commission, there's a very particular description of the character I'm depicting, so I have to go with it. If just the wavy thing worked, I would be using WildHair or the like. That's why I gave the whole list above; I'm not being pedantic, I'm just saving myself the hassle of having to re-do a piece because it's not done up to specs.

There's a really nice looking curly hair at RDNA, can't remember what it's called but it's a dynamic one so it's a bitch to render, might be worth checking it out!

Why not combine hair? Make one into a prop and parent it, and then use a figure hair as well.  You might be able to find 2 hair styles, that have some but not all of the features you want, and achieve what you want by mixing them together.

If you have a photo of what you're going for I can see about running off the Dynamic equivalent of the curlz I did for James & Jessi that are in my store and freebie section. I don't have Hiro though so making a skullcap specifically for him is gonna be difficult.

I think that would be difficult. While possible to do with styles that have separate "sections" like ponytails, fringers, bangs, etc, the problem here is that the style I'm after has single continous strands from the roots to the tips. So short of doing several renders and merging them, there's not much mixing and matching that I can do.

since the adorana hair is long, it would be fine on hiro.  just make its skullcap fit just within his head.  for dynamic hair , it only really matters precisely where the base is if  you're working with really short  and regular hair, where the difference in length between different places will make a difference (say, for stubble).  i used that hair on jessi (i think it was that one), with no tweaks.

If you cannot find exactly what your looking for, trying checking out postwork hair, like ilonas Instant Hair. :)

Thanks. I've been looking at those, to gain some time, but frankly, haven't got any for several reasons:

I can paint the hair myself, I'm just not looking forwards to it if it can be avoided at all, and I prefer the look of 3D hair over a 3D body, if that makes sense.

That's great to know, thank you very much :)
