In actual fact it is not a hoax at all, but most probably is a programming glitch by the website's programmers. I was looking at the Quadruped Puppet Master item on CP and when I scrolled down, the screen grab is exactly what I saw!

I just went there and looked up the item you mentioned.  The part at the bottom looks ok to me and has normal pricing.

If that is in fact what you saw, then it was a glitch as you said, and has been fixed.
