This is my favorite forum, but forums themselves a generally slow.

The only other Poser forums I know of are at PoserPros, and 3D commune.

Anyone care to mention others?

This is a  page about Carrara  stuff...but there are a bunch of 'General 3d - Sites' listed.  I think several of these have Poser forum areas.

RuntimeDNA has a Poser 4, Poser 5, and a Poser 6 forum.

renderotica has both forum and chat

Try Raunchyminds, they insist on curtesy!  Renderotica has a social and political agenda that is extremely Nietzschean, to say the least.

Interesting comment on 'Rotica there Angelouscuitry, they have "normal" forums there with politeness parameters just like here but they also have a forum called "thunderdome" where you can say and attack who you like how you like!

I don't really know what you mean by that last line!!

I went there a few times, about 4 years ago, I left there thinking if they'd spent half as much time becoming artists, as they do looking the other way, then they may learn something.

Attached Link: Hoplophobia

As far as I know, it was in the general forum, in a thread dealing with means to prevent rape.  I was 'Flamed' by a moderator for having an honest difference of opinion as to the efficacy of gun proliferation as a means of being a preventative.  My opinion being, based on my experience as a school security guard here in Israel, that in the hands of the panicky, hand guns are just as likely to be as lethal to the innocent as well as to the guilty. The debate was interesting and fun, until one of their main moderators jumped in, and accused me of mental deficiency, being full of male bovine manure, and a hoplophobe (for those who don't know what the word means, see the link). Since then, I have for the most part steered cleared of the site, except for occasionally checking their free stuff.

DAZ's Poser Forum is called 'The Commons".

There are lots of active smaller groups out there. And every one of them has a different personality. Just what are you looking for in a forum?  Mainly technical stuff or social?

Nope.... that's their general forum. People can talk about a lot of things there, whihc have nothing to with Poser. It's not for Poser only. DAZ doesn't have a Poser specific forum.

But I had to say hoplophobia? lmbo that is funny, I've never heard the word, and the explanation is even funnier than the word itself.

Odd.....

The possession and carrying of a firearm in the State of Israel is strictly regulated by the government.  For those in military service, the regulatory agency is the Ministry of Defense, for civilians it's the Ministry of Interior.  One cannot buy a firearm of ANY description without the prior application and obtention of a license from the proper governmental authority.

Nor is any license ever issued without the prior presentation of proof that one has passed a course of instruction, given by a recognized authority, on the PROPER handling and safety of firearms.

And Israel is in a state of war.

As for my Hoplophobia, I have children and grandchildren living within the contental borders of the United States.  The proliferation of firearms scares me.  But I am NOT a Hoplophobe, because it's not the weapons themselves that frighten me, but rather the idiots and their itchy trigger fingers that wield them.

As a school security guard, I had to undergo an initial course that lasted for two days before I was issued a 9mm handgun by my company.  Following that, I had to undergo 1 day  refresher couses ever six months, and it was constantly iterated that the lives and safety of others is highly dependant upon my constant viligance and serious attitude towards both my taskand my weapon.  Neither one shuld ever be regarded with jocularity.

I can never understand why some sites have separate forums for different versions of Poser. Most Poser issues are not version-specific. Just read through the latest 20 threads here and try to imagine if they belong under Poser 4, 5 or 6. It just puts me off those sites.

Typically one or two of "the last 20 threads" is on a technical issue of some sort. The shift from P4 to P5, especially if you skipped the Pro Pack, is huge, and I'd be very frustrated if I went off to try something in P4, only to discover that it didn't work. Now that certain models don't work in P4 without some tweaking, the problem is even more dramatic. I don't know if it's worth having seperate forums, but I appreciate being told something works (or does not) in P4 or P5.

Phantast posted Tue, 19 September 2006 at 10:03 AM

Exactly, the version-specific traffic is 5-10% of the whole, which can easily be accomodated in a general forum like this one. The 90% of mainstream Poser chat is then going to be awkwardly divided between the P4, 5 and 6 forums, probably with much unecessary duplication.

Fazzel posted Tue, 19 September 2006 at 3:31 PM

I've noticed though that in RuntimeDNA most of the posts are of a technical nature.
Very little chit-chat going on.  So there dividing it up into separate versions of
Poser does make sense.

Quote - What about DAZ and Content Paradise?

Content Paradise has no general discussion forum unless you are a 'passport member'...

They somewhat 'flip the norm' and have specific forums for the genneral world, but only have customer and general forums for those who buy the 'passport' - without it you don't even have a forum to discuss products you may have bought from them...

Quote - My opinion being, based on my experience as a school security guard here in Israel, that in the hands of the panicky, hand guns are just as likely to be as lethal to the innocent as well as to the guilty.

This is actually backed by police statistics as well... Something radical, on the order of 80% of gun injuries during a breakin, are against the owner of a gun or a member of their family by that gun - rather than against the burglar...

For the exact figure, I'd have to look back at some of my notes and texts from my policing courses when I was studying criminal justice at university. The course in question was taught by a retired NY city cop.

You can take whatever political slant you want on it - ban guns, require training, or good riddance to idiots who can't use their own guns, or even 'what about statistics for other weapons, like a knife or baseball bat?' - but the statistic is just there in its neutral stance.

Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.

At PlanIt 3D we split our Poser forums between Poser 3&4 and Poser 5&6 because we think there are enough significant differences between the way they render and handle materials, to name a couple of examples, to warrant it.
I'm sorry if that puts you off us. :¬)

I guess I just wish it would'nt be inevitable.  I really do'nt think you want to see a program change enough to warrent alternate forums, becasue that lends to learning another application.  And with content that hits home as much as Poser, it gives me the willies just thinking about what it would be like if Poser did'nt have so much eye candy!

markschum posted Tue, 19 September 2006 at 11:01 PM

I dont know what the comment means either . :(

There are plenty of people at rotica that are very willing to help newbies. Much more than I ever found at renderosity. There are also some complete    , but you find them everywhere .

And supposing I want to ask which braid-style hair people would recommend - would that be a Poser 3&4 issue or a Poser 5&6 issue? If I post in the P5&6 forum because I use P6, I might miss out on excellent advice from someone who still uses P4. So do I post in both, at double the effort, and the irritation of people who think this is spamming?

No, I post in neither, I come here instead.
