I've just been checking out the new Terrain Tools plugin for Carrara - [ http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2665466](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2665466)

Wouldn't it be great if Vue could do something similar - i.e. creating ripples, wakes, etc. in water where objects, land, etc. interact? It would save the trouble of all those work-arounds we do to get the disturbed water effect.

One day maybe?!

You can do all of this now in Vue 5 with the function editor.  The frothy water edges routine has been well documented in this forum.  Creating ripples in response to an object would worrk alomost the same way.  And by the way, all of this is free inside of Vue5 Infinite.

Yes, but I only had to pay $349 for Carrara.

TheFixer - Yes, that's my problem too!

I would never describe the function editor as being intuitive to use - which is why I've, so far, avoided using it. This Terrain plugin seems considerably easier to use for creating ripples, wakes, etc. round objects in water.

TheFixer and I and a few others contributed to a thread a few weeks back when we discussed various work-arounds such as creating small rippled terrains in Vue to place round objects, etc. I guess without knowledge of the function editior we'll have to stick to these, somewhat, long-winded solutions!

Any good tutorials on how to do ripples, etc. in the funstion editor greatfully welcome!

I actually got a tute for doing the foam on a shoreline in last months 3DWorld magazine but you can guess even though I followed it to the letter, mine looked like shit compared to the one in the mag!

I saw that tutorial as well but haven't tried it yet. A well-written tutorial it was.

The function editor is really intimidating. A comprehensive guide to using it would be very useful!

Yes it was very well written and the images looked really good but mine looked like crap [lol].

Admittedly I used my own terrain and not the one they gave with the tute, perhaps that made a difference!  [Nah! I just don't know what I'm doing, lol].
