Subject: Skydomes and IBL lights???

I made a skydome for a scene, and I want to use IBL AO lighting.  I have the normals facing inwards on my dome, and my groundplane is set.  Now, how do i tweak lights which will illuminate the inside of the dome.  I'm especially trying to capitalize on the power of IBL AO since it adds such a realistic touch to the renders.  Thanks, -Starkdog

This is what was suggested to me SD:
1- Disable the "visible in raytracing" option for the skydome
2- disable its "cast shadows" option as well.
3- Use an IBL light to set up the ambient atmosphere
4- add an infinite light to simulate the sun.

Until I used these tips I was getting some weird patterns showing up on the skydome itself. If you want to use IBL AO then I'd use it at a very low setting.

I'd do everything that Sealtm2 has listed, but perhaps one other thing. Depending on what you want to do with your skydome you might want to run its diffuse texture out of the Ambiant channel at value 1(and set Diffuse to 0) in the material room. If it is mapped as a sky then it will self -illuminate and you won't need to worry about actually trying to light it. You may, of course, be doing something else with your dome and want to light it (like the inside of an arena or something).
