I'm just beginning to understand how the hair room works, but there's an irritating problem which slows me down. When the mouse moves over an object, it highlights that object, allowing you to click on it. I find that in the hair room, this feature gets in the way when you're trying to create a new group. Is there a way to turn this off so you can define the hair regions/groups? I didn't see anything in preferences.

I use a combination of things. Making unnecessary parts/objects invisible. Using different view settings (some allow you to grab the back side of an object, some don't). And holding down the shift key will keep you from accidently selecting something you didn't mean to select.

Thanks, I'll try some of those, but what gets in the way is the hilighting itself - like when you select the head, it remains a hilighted outline as long as the cursor is in the document window. So when I'm trying to select something, the hilight outline gets in the way...
Cute cat, by the way!

I don't think there's any way to turn off the highlighting itself, short of editing the config file. (It's plain text, I believe, so you can do it.)
Also, you'd be better off growing the hair on a skullcap rather than on the head of the figure. (There are various free skullcaps out there, or you could use the ones that come with the P6 dynamic hair props - just delete the hair that's already on them.) That way, you can save it to your library and use it with other figures.

Thanks again randym
Will try out some of your suggestions, particularly with the config file suggestion. Guess I was shooting for something else though. I tried a moustache tut, and had such a problem getting the region shaped the way I wanted, and to top it off, the tool chose to grow hair in a most unusual place, because the outline for the face with gums and teeth, kept getting in the way, LOL..

Set your document display settings to "hidden line." You'll still see the highlighting, but it will be impossible to select vertices that aren't in front. So you won't be able to grow hair on hidden surfaces like teeth, gums, or the back of the head.
