I will throw in one more Civil War thingy.  This is part of a slide show we did a few years ago after going to the 140th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, USA.  This was a turning point in the war between the states.  All pics were taken with an old Minolta Dimage 100.

It was not so much fun as sad.  I tend to see such events as a reflection of what happened and not as entertainment.  There were close to 20,000 reenactors in the 3 day event.  It was hot, hurried and eventful.  So, bear with this selection of two images, the closing page and one of the intermediate pages of the slide show.

I hope to find a neat shot of happy folks or scene to post...this thread gives me a chance to recover images filed away and almos forgotten..a few are worth posting.      Tom.

mamabobbijo ( ) posted Fri, 29 December 2006 at 2:12 PM

Hey Tom,
Most of what gets posted here is more than worth it! I love the stories that go w/ the images almost as much as the images themselves. They are quite interesting, and I know that many of the images speak for themselves, but the stories speak for the Photog and his/her feelings at the time. It sometimes causes one to re-look as it were and see an image in a whole new light.

TwoPynts ( ) posted Fri, 29 December 2006 at 2:53 PM

Let's not forget Marlene's slight smile either. It makes 3 frames look like 4. :) And I agree with BJ, the story that goes with a photo makes it even more interesting.

Making those gifs is soooooo addicting! Now I'm actually trying to make a whole animated short, lol. I've been using ImageReady to make my gifs but I think I need something that will allow bigger files.Coincidentally, my husband , Wayne, just got Anime Studio 5 ,(used to be called Mojo) and I may experiment with that. I just have to figure out if that's the right software to use and how I could possibly ever show it here. That would be fun.

And yes, I agree. The background story can definately 'flesh out' an image and make it more interesting.

Thought I would keep this thread alive, it's such a kewl place to dump stuff you probably won't post to your gallery.  I didn't think this one was up to par, but didn't want to dump it either...pretty plain jane if you ask me, but something about it wouldn't let me delete it either.....any thoughts?

Aloha,
Dave~

Dave, it might be plain jane to you..but for me, never around waves like this, it is better than plain jane!   I can see why you might not use it for gallery..just another wave pic, etc. whatever.

Still, there are us landlubbers who don't have surf everyday...
As for retouching, etc., I am not qualified to provide those thoughts.  Thanks for the post and the pic.         Tom.

OMG! Do you guys ever step outside your own heads and look at your photos! This is amazing! There must be a thousand shades of blue and green! The sense of chained power about to break free is positively awe inspiring! The sunlight through the water is intense! Someone should start a challenge, " I Didn't Think It Was Good Enough!". Post them in the gallery and sit back and be amazed at the positive reactions you get. There may be some critical reason you feel that way but when you make these descisions bear in mind not all of the viewers are photographers. Maybe Two Pynts was right, I should post my lens caps and fingertips, to show you not good enough! Sorry I have little room to criticize as I'm not a photog but I have been getting these posts in my e-mail and find it a very lively place. I do hope I have given no offense. Thanks for allowing me to speak.

@Dave,  I am living close to ocean and still don't have a shot like show that high wave with this amazing blue or emerald color! Eascoast australia is very shalow we will never get a high wave unless out on the ocean, but I won't rick my camera for that! So I am admire your shots here and in a gallery!

mamabobbijo, I am having trouble finding your images..the search says some are in atmosphere/mood and one other place. Will you IM me and give a link or two?

I do appreciate your comment on the photo put up by Dave/Punaguy. ( I cannot speak for him..not my place at all. This is all from "me".)  Too often we do tend to look at photos from the photog's perspective and not that of others. That is understandable.  The shot is of worthy nature as you have pointed out.  And....beleive me, to have a comment like yours from someone not directly in the photography direction is good, indeed.  Makes me think a bit more.

To receive comment or criticism from artistic folks is much better to me than from the general public.  Then, we take it for what it is worth.  Thanks for sounding in on this thread.

Tom.

😄 Thank you....so i guess i did okay for being a first time huh? And no not everyone has blue eyes...but i would think it´s by far the most common eyecolor. Marcus´ eyes are brown/green....Jenny´s are really grey/blue like mine only more grey...while Sara has rather blue eyes. Is that unusual that people from the same family has different eye colors like that? Hmm....i do wonder if they have the same dad.....might have to take this up with my uncle. :tt2:

Hey Andreas. Congrats on the new flash! You did a really  wonderful job and it's great to see you taking some portrait shots.I know you've wanted to for some time... All of these are excellent, but I especially like the last three for their drama and the way they engage the viewer. I also love what you did with the one of Sara.  Adding the tear and those shadowy multiples of her was  a wonderfully creative touch. Congrats again on the flash and thank you for sharing this. You have a great looking family...even if none of them look like 'swedes'...lol.  Just kidding... ;^P

I am thinking of putting this on my gallery.  "Onions With Old Potato"   Any thoughts?
