WARNING!!

If you want your BRYCE 6.0 RIGHT AWAY, do NOT order the Content DVD in the same order.  My purchase is "being processed"  because some of the items (ala the DVD) are not available yet.  Hence my credit card has not been billed and I'm stuck in limbo even through I checked the "send out of stock items separately".

Hopefully this will be fixed shortly.

If you get yourself a one month PC membership, it will get you Bryce 6 for $6,- a voucher for $5,- (Meaning you get Bryce 6 for $1,-),  you can get the Bryce content DVD at 50% off the discount price, you get 50% off Daz originals until the end of the month, and you get a coupon for ten free items out of the platinum bonus pack,  along with the opportunity to get yourself a wide range of items at the price of $1,99 for a month - I really don't see where you can go wrong there.

And there's this additional thing about the release of Victoria 4 before the end of the month, most probably at a Platinum Club discount as well.

(And not, I'm not employed by DAZ...)

AgentSmith posted Wed, 18 October 2006 at 5:06 PM

The sunlight soft shadow bug? You mean where the Sky Lab soft shadow would not stay switched on? That was fixed in b5.5, or at least I never had anymore problems with that since B5.5

HDRI speed; Using HDRI's for reflections, etc, etc, and for IBL (Image Based Lighting) slows down any render in any 3D program, by its nature its just more complex lighting, and by the nature of using an image to drive the lighting...it is automatic soft shadows.

That being said, its not that bad. You will find that different HDRI's will render a scene faster than others (I'm assuming this has to do with the complexity of the actual HDRI image, and how many exposure layers were used to create said HDRI image.

HDRI Quality Slider - This is the speed killer. This is the variable that will dictate the quality of the soft shadows. I do not suggest ramping this up to 100 and then complaining about render speeds. I'm telling ya right now, I have yet to see a scene that has a real noticable difference in its shadows with a quality of 25 vs a quality of 100. So, in short, keep it under 25, imo. And, in some scenes where the ground/floor is rougher than say a flat color on a flat plane...I have set the quality to zero. Still looks great.

How do the HDRI images look? I would say Bryce 6 has taken a very firm step further towards realism. I'll show you later on today, I have one in the hopper.

The above is just from my experimentation.

I just wanted to give an HDRI heads up. I remember when Bryce could suddenly have more rays per pixel (v5.0), and everyone maxed them out thinking it would suddenly look like a Maya render, but the difference was slight with an exponential increase in render times.

Guess another warning has appeared.

Bryce 6.0 and Windows XP Pro 64 bit evidently have some issues that aren't sorted out yet.  Better double check if your planning to run it on XP 64 that it will be compatible for you (might have to check with tech support by the thread I'm seeing).

Actually I was able to force payment on my order about 2 hours after placing the initial order.  It wouldn't work for me for the first while, but eventually (an hour ago) I was able to:

My Account -> Order History -> Order #xxxx -> and down towards the bottom was a Payment Section.  I clicked "Pay for this order now", and I was able to get it to bill my credit card, the download LINKS appeared in my Downloads AND my serial number arrived via email.

As for the servers being swamped, it seems DAZ was prepared this time and must have a major troubleshooting team onsite fixing anything coming up.  I was able to download all the files (and there are quite a few if you get the Bonus Pack), each anywhere from 10 to 54MB in size at 80kps to 260kps in the last HOUR!  Server's seem to be handling the load just fine for most people.

Hello everyone 😄

There was a temporary issue where placing the Bryce 6 Content DVD in an order with other, downloadable, products caused the downloadable products to not have the download links become active right away. This issue has now been fixed, so feel free to include the Bryce 6 Content DVD in your order of downloadable products. Happy rendering!

By the way, Steve K. has confirmed that Bryce 6 may (LIKELY) has issues with XP 64 bit, and that the installer they are using DEFINITELY doesn't like XP 64 bit.

From what I have heard, you could always use Bryce with dual monitors.

Take the cursor up to one of the Create, Edit areas, press and hold space bar, your cursor will turn into a little hand and you can drag those "toolbars" over to your other monitor.

Now...that's what I've been told over the years by dual monitor people. Never been able to try it myself.  :o(

But I can see the hand cursor, and move the toolbars around.

Yeah - you can move the toolbars - but the main working area is stuck on monitor 1 you can't actually drag the interface from one screen to the other or strech it across - in fact you can't size it - you can only minimize or maximize.....

No biggy - but would be nice....

Little things like the fact they can now start developing a Bryce 6 SDK, something impossible for previous versions of Bryce.

Quote - That being said, its not that bad. You will find that different HDRI's will render a scene faster than others (I'm assuming this has to do with the complexity of the actual HDRI image, and how many exposure layers were used to create said HDRI image.

Yeah, there are apparently two factors in that. One is the sheer resolution of the HDR image, while the other is the amount of detail in it. But simplified, the bigger HDR file is, longer it will render. And yes, upping the quality to the max will lead to mammoth renders. Not that we don't know how that looks like. :)

Nope, just a flat $6 for PAs since you are a PC member. No extra discounts.

well here is the scoop for me....   It does want to load the hdr files I downloaded ,,,  until I open AgentSmith's file.. then it allowed the hdr files to load in...  once I closed AgentSmith file, it took me quite a few tries to get it to load the newly installed files...  Don't ask me why or how that happens...   So I'm going to just let the program get use to my sytem or vis versa.....

Here is a fish I finally rendered in HDRI....

Steve posted the following at Daz:

The boxed version is scheduled for January 2007, because we plan on releasing Bryce 6.1 by the end of the year. 6.1 will be an important FREE update in its own right since it will have a collection of bug fixes that we're certain to hear about in the coming days that we'll want to address for you. On top of that, we'll have a MAC Intel compatible build out for the MAC in that release. In addition, there's a set of further fixes and feature polish that we're already working on. The HDRI lab, for instance, will have quite a few more controls added to it so that it is even more powerful and versatile in what can be accomplished with it. The dual-processor and hyperthreading support will be extended to work more thoroughly within Bryce 6 and the various previews windows, and we hope to squeeze out even a bit more speed from it. And who knows, we might even have a surprise feature up our sleeves that we'll release around that same time... Very Happy

That should answer a few questions about dual threading etc :)

Think i might just give this one a go and freshen up some of the old skills. I´ll probably have to re-learn the darn thing now...
