Ok I have a UV map that isn't too bad using the archimap tool, but it's split a couple of faces that I didn't want split - I can weld those together, but it's also put one face linked to others where I don't how do I break the vertex points in two so that I could move the face and weld it elsewhere?

Do I just have to go back and be more clever with the edges I selected as seams and then use unwrap rather then the archimap script?

Go to Select->Stick local UVs to Mesh Vertex and uncheck that option.  All vertices should now be several vertices, one for each face that comes to that point.
