I've been creating custom textures for my figures/props.
Going into the Material room is a must while I'm still working on it but once it's final I want to create a pz2 so I can put the texture/Trans/Bump on any figure/prop.
After many months of attaching my custom textures via the material room I have now gone and copied a (texture based pz2) and then edited it in a text software, which was really made for html.
It worked really well but now I'm posed with a problem.
The pz2 file I used has no Trans or Bump specs in it.
Changing where it points for a texture is simple enough but I don't know enough about the code to add Bumps & amounts or Transparencies and amounts myself.
The real question.
How do the pros do it?
Is there some software or plugin or something that will eliminte completly having to go to material room and output a pz2 I can use for any figure?
Or is there some way to save a "Pose" of the texture kind?
Much Thanks for any direction or replies
Scott

You can use programs like MatPose edit that will do things for you.....but I got tired of having to enter everything in so this is what I do now if I'm not just saving as a P6 materials collection ---
With the figure and it's textures and everything set up how you want in the materials room, save a new copy of the figure to the characters library.
Then delete everything from this new cr2 but the material zones desired, and rename to pz2.
I use CR2Builder to open the files and delete everything I don't need. (I'm at work so I don't have the link at the ready)
If you have P6, you can also just save a materials collection, and then you can make a few changes to the top of the document and rename as a pz2 to make a matpose. I don't remember what all you have to change...but it's an even simpler way to get your matpose created.

Ah yes a "MAT" Pose. I knew I had that terminology wrong.
Thanks.
This software, though PC looks very interesting.
I will look into this further.
Something I always forget to add in these threads...
Running Poser 6 on a Mac
Your last paragraph looks like it might do the trick.
Is it easy to figure out, what to delete?
Many Many thanks!!!!

There are also Pythons in the Free stuff area to so MAT poses. Just make sure they specify a MAT for a Prop, as I thnk there is a differnece.
MATs were kind of done away with, with the advent of the material room though. I'm kinda surprised you want to use one.
If i'm not mistaked a .MC5(Material Room Preset) is actually very similar to a MAT.pz2. I bet if you ask the right person he/she will tell you that you can just change the extension of the file, or copy/paste a section or two, from a .MC5 into a .pz2!

Well after a bunch of failed attempts I was uable to change a Cr2 to a pz2.
I opened a good pz2 MAT pose and compared it to my new one, making sure it began and ended the same.
After that failed I went back and got rid of other code that I belived to be figure type.
At one point I noticed my new pz2 did not have a Poser icon?
I went and copy & pasted my new info to a working MAT pz2.
At first my new pz2 wasn't even showing up in the runtime? Copy & pasting solved that but when I load it onto my figure some parts show transparent & the textures are the original ones not my new ones????
I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I think this, (code stuff), is more then I should be trying to digest.

I see these python scripts are pc based. I am going to try to run them through MAC converter.

Inexperience & the fact that all my other purchased items/figures do it this way.
Thanks for the help.
I haven't given up... Yet. :>)

The only way I ever got MATs to work was with P-Wizard, but I'm on PC, and I'm not even sure it's in the Marketplace anymore. I think Katman wrote it.

Also, if you're just going to be using these for yourself and not sharing.....you could always edit an exsisting matpose file to fit your needs. Just replace the exsisting texture references with your own and you should be good to go...
Might be another way to get what you want done.

They are just for my self. I would never redistribute.
Thats pretty much what I did & it worked great.
But in some cases I will want a Bump & Displacment & I don't have a MAT pose with all the above.
I've got to get away from this for a day or two. But when I get back on it I'm going to try to find a MAT Pose with all of the above, point it to my custom folder & then use that as a template for future mats.
All personal use of course.
Thanks for all the replies they've been very very helpful!!!
Still though... How do the Merchants do it? I was hoping for some feed from them too. Guess not.

If they are just for yourself, then why not forget about MAT poses altogether and use the better material collections (.mc6)? You can save them from the material room (as you got Poser 6)... And if for some funky reason you really want MAT poses with all their flaws then open an existing MAT pose file in a text editor and compare it with the material collection you created in the material room in the same text editor. It should be very easy to find out which parts of the material collection to replace with what part of the MAT pose file.
